5 types of friends every Nigerian girl has in her squad
The ladies of Africa Magic series Unmarried are constantly giving us friendship goals. We can’t get enough of how these best babes are there for each other through every challenge.
The show tells the story of three friends – Nengi (played by ex-BBNaija housemate Venita Akpofure), who is career-focused but deals with commitment issues after she caught her husband on the verge of marrying another woman while still married to her. There’s also the gorgeous Funbi (Enado Odigie) who can’t seem to stay away from rich, married men, and Kamsi (Folu Storms) who struggles with her ne’er-do-well partner.
From man wahala to job blues and just life in general, these babes always have each other’s backs. If you have a squad like this, then here are five types of friends you probably have in your group.
These girls are goals
The sugar mummy
The sugar mummy is a fave because she pays for everything! She covers the bill when you guys hang out together and you know you can always call her when sapa is trying to overwhelm you or you need that urgent 2k. Her card is always ready to be swiped. She’s usually a focused career-driven or business-inclined woman and spoils everyone silly.
She may have commitment issues masked by her busy schedule and lack of time for a relationship.
The voice of reason
This is that one friend who you can talk to about anything. She doesn’t judge and is a great listener. The best thing about her? She gives amazing advice and she’s always right! If this particular friend gives you advice and you don’t take it, you will cry “had I known?”
She’s the moral compass of the friend group and would encourage everyone to do what’s right for themselves.
The minister for chopping life and jollification affairs
You see this friend, she no come this life to suffer, and she dey follow politician. She’s all about her bag and tends to be a beauty and a spec. She’s typically the centre of attention when you guys are out and you likely get a lot of freebies because someone always wants to get her attention. On days like Valentine’s and her birthday and even random days, she gets expensive gifts. Although she looks and acts confident, in some cases she could have deep-seated insecurities and possibly trauma as well.
The one who always dates scum
Since you met this friend to date she has never dated a reasonable guy. She always ends up attracting the wrong kind of guys. Countless interventions have been staged to try and save her from herself, but her heart wants what it wants. She has serious self-esteem issues and feels like she doesn’t deserve better even though everyone tries to convince her otherwise.
The friend who is a fighter
This friend is ever ready to defend her friends from anyone and anything. She’s the friend that will rain fire and brimstone if someone is rude or disrespectful to any of her friends. She’s very vocal about her displeasure and always ready to pull up guns blazing!
