Britney Ever After (2017)
The only thing that society loves more than building up a hero is tearing them down, watching as they make a spectacle of themselves. That’s the basis for 2017 Lifetime TV movie biopic Britney Ever After, zooming in on the rise to superstar fame of pop singer Britney Spears… and her very fast, very public fall from grace.
When Britney shaved her head at a salon in one of LA’s upmarket suburbs in 2007, onlookers had no idea that she was struggling with serious mental issues. They also didn’t know that earlier that day, the Baby One More Time singer had checked into an exclusive drug rehab facility, then checking herself out shortly before the buzz cut.
It was only when she grabbed an umbrella and started attacking a photographer’s car that people stood up and took note. But how did she get there? Too much fame, too quickly, without proper care from her managers and agents. Her publicised love life with boyband star Justin Timberlake added to the pressure and the fall was spectacular.
While this movie was not endorsed by Britney or her team, it’s a good reminder of what she’s gone through to get to where she is today, and how hard she worked for her comeback.
