1000% Me: Growing Up Mixed (2023)

Through a series of insightful conversations, three-time Emmy winner W Kamau Bell explores the experiences of mixed-race kids and their families in the Bay Area.

Inspired by Kamau and his wife Melissa’s own desire to better understand what life is like for their mixed daughters, the film explores how multiracial kids (and their loved ones) navigate issues of identity in a world that often asks them to pick a side. With humour and heart, 1000% Me: Growing Up Mixed reveals the joys and complexities of growing up mixed race in today’s America, opening the door for more dialogue around race, culture, and identity.

1000% Me: Growing Up Mixed won Outstanding Non-Fiction Programme at the 2023 Children’s and Family Emmy Awards and has a 100% critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Common Sense Media recommends the HBO documentary for ages 10+.
