It’s Liverpool’s title to lose, says Robert Marawa

Legendary sportscaster and Showmax Premier League ambassador Robert Marawa was asked if he thinks Liverpool can go all the way and win the Premier League title this season.

With Liverpool sitting pretty on top, Marawa says he wouldn’t be surprised to see manager Arne Slot win a Premier League title in his first season with the Reds.

The Showmax PL ambassador gives his thoughts on the Reds’ title charge as they head into the international break five points clear at the top.

“Imagine if Arne Slot wins the Premier League title in his first season at Liverpool. I think it’s more than just imagining. I certainly think that he can. I look at his calm demeanour, his ability to not get carried away. That alone brings about a very reassured dressing room. You see it, the body language from the players, senior and younger is pretty much the same. Their facial expressions show a team that is not bragging about the results that they have right now. It’s about the next game for them.

“And when a team has won nine out of their 11 games so far in the Premier League, that has really put them in pole position. And once you are in pole position, it’s up to you to then lose it. It’s for them to lose now, and that’s the bottom line. This is reminiscent of the Jürgen Klopp season in 2019/20. Klopp had the continuity. And so does Slot. The new manager hasn’t had to dig deep as far as the transfer window is concerned. They haven’t had to buy any players to replace anybody, so I think just the options he has, has been great.

“The Mo Salah effect has stood out for me. Salah is playing out of his skin, and I’ll be very surprised if he doesn’t renew his contract. As it stands, Salah is in line to be one of the greatest ever players to play for Liverpool and he already is in that mould, so a contract renewal is a must. The goals and assists he is providing, the leadership, just the star quality he brings into the side, is unbelievable.

“Liverpool have also been fortunate with injuries. Yes, they have had their first-choice goalkeeper out for a while, but they have a more than adequate replacement in Caoimhín Kelleher. Trent Alexander-Arnold got injured last weekend and will be out for a few weeks, they have Conor Bradley bringing that youthful exuberance into the squad. He is a great player that comes in to replace Liverpool’s first-choice right back.

“I don’t want go into statistics and individual performances, but all I am saying is that where Liverpool stand right now, and with other teams faltering like Man City and Arsenal, and with the league heading into an exciting stage of the campaign, I think this title is for Liverpool to grab.”
