Showmax Originals have a new home on DStv Stream

Customers to get the best of both worlds as Showmax Originals and fan favourites join live sport, and award-winning local and international content on DStv Stream.

  • Showmax Originals and select titles are moving to DStv Stream, where they will live in a dedicated Showmax section within the app.
  • The move ensures the award‑winning African stories remain widely available after the Showmax service closes on 30 April 2026.
  • DStv Stream brings together on‑demand entertainment and live TV, including sport, in one streaming destination.
  • Showmax Originals and more will be available to DStv Compact and DStv Premium satellite and streaming-only customers via the DStv Stream app.
  • More movies and series will be added over the coming weeks.

The stories that defined Showmax are not disappearing. Instead, they are finding a new home on DStv Stream, where a dedicated Showmax section inside the app brings together many of Showmax’s most acclaimed originals and fan favourites alongside the full live streaming experience available on DStv’s standalone streaming service. Showmax Originals and more will be available on DStv Compact and DStv Premium packages exclusively on DStv Stream.

The move ensures that the award-winning African series remain widely available after the current Showmax service closes on 30 April, now within the broader DStv streaming experience.

“Showmax helped unlock a wave of world-class African storytelling,” says Nomsa Philiso, Director Content, General Entertainment English and Portuguese speaking territories at MultiChoice, a CANAL+ company. “Series like The Wife, Youngins, Devilsdorp , and Adulting, along with productions from Nigeria, Kenya and across the continent, were created through collaboration between MultiChoice’s content teams and local producers. That commitment to African storytelling does not change.”

The success of Showmax Originals has been built through partnerships with producers, writers and creative talent across Africa. Series such as Spinners, a co‑production between MultiChoice and CANAL+, which aired across Africa and in France, demonstrate how locally developed African stories are increasingly reaching global audiences.

For South African customers, DStv Stream remains the platform where this content is available locally, alongside a much broader library of African and international content, live channels and sport.

“This move brings together Showmax Originals, on‑demand entertainment and live television in a single platform designed around how audiences want to watch and enjoy their content today,” says Willington Ngwepe, CEO of MultiChoice SA (Pty) Ltd, the broadcasting services licensee.

What will be available to watch?

The dedicated Showmax section on DStv Stream will feature standout titles including The Wife, Youngins (2026 SAFTA winner for Best Telenovela), Law, Love and Betrayal, Devilsdorp and Adulting, alongside popular series from across the continent such as Wura and Single Kiasi. International content on demand includes various Real Housewives series, Starfleet Academy, The Burbs, and The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins, as well as popular Afrikaans titles such as Die Kantoor and Koek.

This sits alongside everything else available on DStv Compact or DStv Premium, including tens of thousands of hours of on‑demand movies and series and more than 100 live channels available to stream 24/7.

For customers, it delivers the best of both worlds: popular local originals such as Mgidi Moms, uThando Nes’Thembu, Inimba and The Real City Makoti, alongside premium international channels, plus kids’ programming including boxsets of Cocomelon, Blippi and Superstrikas, and world‑class sport, reinforcing DStv as Africa’s most comprehensive entertainment platform.

Sport remains a key part of the experience. Through SuperSport, subscribers can watch competitions such as the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, LaLiga and South Africa’s Betway Premiership, including the Soweto Derby on 25 April, as well as additional SuperSport channels. Unlike Showmax Premier League, which was only available on mobile devices, DStv Stream can be viewed on smart TVs, as well as mobile devices.
