White Bird (2023)

From the best-selling author of Wonder, the book that sparked a movement to “choose kind”, comes the inspirational next chapter, White Bird.

The story follows Julian (Kids’ Choice nominee Bryce Gheisar, reprising his role from Wonder), who has struggled to belong ever since he was expelled from his former school for his treatment of Auggie Pullman.

To transform his life, Julian’s grandmother (Oscar winner Helen Mirren from 1923 and The Queen) finally reveals to Julian her own story of courage. During her youth in Nazi-occupied France, a boy sheltered her from mortal danger. They found first love in a stunning, magical world of their own creation, while the boy’s mother (Emmy winner Gillian Anderson) risked everything to keep her safe.

Directed by Marc Forster (Oscar winner Finding Neverland), White Bird is recommended for ages 11+ by Common Sense Media, who praise the film as “substantive, heartbreaking, and uplifting” in their 4/5-star review.
