Guidance S1-3
Teens need guidance in life and none more so that the group in web series Guidance. And even though the series first launched in 2015, it’s more relevant than ever right now.
High school it-girl Miriam (Amanda Steele) is the subject of revenge porn in Season 1 that turns her daily life into a nightmare as the other students turn on her. She gets help from her guidance counsellor Anna (Michelle Trachtenberg), who also searches for the culprit. FYI, revenge porn has recently become an official criminal act around the world and if you’re caught doing it, you’re off to prison.
But that’s only for Season 1 – it’s an anthology series, so Seasons 2 and 3 have a new cast and new premise, albeit equally socially important. That keeps fans on their feet because there’s only so much that can be invested into social matters on a TV show before it becomes stale.
The writing is intelligent and the cast, most of whom are newbies, make this a drama series worth watching, writes Tranelle Maner of alligator.org: “Unlike a traditional teen drama that introduces the characters first and builds the atmosphere of the setting, this brings viewers into the dramatic news of an arrest, scandal or death that brings us to the present moment.”
