A side of Mercy we didn’t know

On the latest episode of their reality show, Mercy decided to do something special for some disadvantaged young girls who live with their adoptive mother in Limpopo. Mercy explained that when she heard their stories, she was moved to lend a helping hand.

Emotional wounds

“I was raised by my grandmother. When she was done cooking, she would call other children to come and eat. And that just, it made me understand the importance of giving,” she said.

Mercy, her cousin and her BFF Chandra bought gifts for the girls and treated them to a special lunch, where they also had fun activities.

Chandra also shared her emotional story about how she lost both her parents at a young age. “I lost my parents when I was 12. My mom passed away – she was shot. And then two years later my dad passed away. So, there was a time in my life where I also experienced being an orphan. Just know that you are fearfully and wonderfully made, and you are here for a purpose.”

The motivational speeches continued as Mercy opened up about being bullied and teased for being skinny when she was in primary school.

She explained that the whole experience taught her not to love who she was and took away many years of enjoying being a kid. “I just wanna say to each and every person here you are so beautiful. You’re beautiful and you need to learn to love who you are,” she shared tearfully.

Reliving the past

The following day, Mercy and Chandra reflected on what happened at the charity event. Things got very emotional as Chandra spoke about how she couldn’t fully open up about her story.

“It just felt like, you know when you go back to those emotions, you actually don’t wanna relive them and you don’t wanna go back,” she said.

Chandra explained that she hasn’t spoken about her parents’ passing in a long time. “I honestly thought I could speak about it openly and I was strong enough,” she said, adding that her parents have been gone for over 20 years.
