Everest (2015)
Hollywood went big turning Jon Krakauer’s 1997 book Into Thin Air into an epic movie. The CGI is so real you’d swear they really did film on Everest rather than much lower peaks in Italy (FYI they did a little bit of shooting in Nepal near the Himalayas but nowhere close to Everest).
The drama is intense and rightly so – it’s based on a disastrous climb in 1996 when two crews were caught in a surprise blizzard and eight people died. The cast includes Jake Gyllenhaal, Jason Clarke, Josh Brolin, Sam Worthington and other big-name stars.
