Interview: Mampintsha and Babes Wodumo on their relationship, son and family feud
They say celebrity relationships don’t last but Babes Wodumo and Mampintsha have proven that that’s just a myth. The musicians have passed the 10-year mark in their relationship and seem to be unstoppable. We recently caught up with the love birds and quizzed them on their relationship, being parents and what viewers can expect on Season 2 of their reality show Uthando Lodumo.
Mampintsha shares relationship secrets
When asked what makes their relationship different, Mampintsha said: “I think I try to understand her as a person who’s younger than me. She also understands me, but as an older person I try to understand her more.”
Mampintsha believes that peace and happiness can be found in understanding each other because understanding comes with respect. He emphasised the importance of combining those two things. In case you’re wondering how they make their relationship work, the singer pointed out that he goes to counselling sessions. “I don’t think I’ll stop because we’re all new to marriage… We need advice, we need to let things out. So, I will always go to classes, I will never stop because they help me to grow, they strengthen the love,” he shared.

Babes on motherhood
Their love has truly been strengthened now that they have a child together. Babes gave birth to their first son, who’s affectionately known as Sponge, in 2021. The Wololo hitmaker said she enjoys being a mother. She described her son as “hyper”.
“There are boring babies who just remain quiet with their mouths wide open. Mine is not like that. So, I enjoy it.” However, Babes doesn’t think she’ll have more children in the future.
The mother of one advised other parents, Babes said: “Love your child and love yourself. Sometimes when we have children we have low self-esteems, lose weight… Just love yourself and love your body.”
Both families need to find healing
You can tell that Babes and her husband have grown and evolved in the last couple of years. They’re even giving Mzansi an opportunity to experience some of their most precious moments, while also exposing the not-so-glamourous parts of their lives. Season 2 of Uthando Lodumo kicked off with the couple’s families sharing how they don’t get along.
During the interview, Mampintsha said that their families haven’t healed yet and that he’s affected when they don’t get along. “I didn’t grow up seeing something like this. Someone I’m in a relationship with arguing with my mother and swearing at each other, I don’t know how to explain it.” Mampintsha doesn’t want to take sides and wants them to fix things.
Watch new episodes of Uthando Lodumo every Thursday on Showmax. The whole of Season 1 is also ready to binge-watch.
