Papillon (2017)
Papillon tells the true story of French convict Henri Charrière, who in 1933 was imprisoned on Devil’s Island, a penal colony in French Guiana in South America. Henri was a safecracker who was framed for murder and sentenced to life in exile. In 1941 he escaped, one of a handful of prisoners to do so. He teamed up with another convict, counterfeiter Louis Dega, in his daring scheme.
The movie stars Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy) as Henri and Rami Malek (Mr Robot, Bohemian Rhapsody) as Louis. It’s based on Henri’s autobiographies, Papillon and Banco, and was previously adapted into a movie starring Steve McQueen and Dustin Hoffman.
