Reservoir Dogs (1992)
Reservoir Dogs, Tarantino’s finest crime caper, will drag you kicking and screaming back to 1992. Director-writer-actor Quentin Tarantino’s indie crime-gone-wrong flick is sheer genius – it was voted Greatest Independent Film Of All Time by all-knowing entertainment magazine Empire. It blows the rest out of the water, literally, thanks to the arsenal of guns and violence on display, as well as the cast.
Harvey Keitel, Tim Roth, Chris Penn, Steve Buscemi, Michael Madsen and Quentin are part of a diamond-heist gang with the perfect plan… that falls apart and takes them on the craziest ride of their lives – and that might be a fairly short ride for some. The script is brilliant. The twists are genius. And the filming style is typical Tarantino, so you know what you’re getting when you press “play”.
David Gurney from commonsensemedia.org is clear with his review: “Reservoir Dogs ranks as one of the finest, and most gut-wrenching, crime dramas ever, but is certainly not for the faint of heart. Even at this early stage in his career, Tarantino expertly builds tension, interweaving scenes of the aftermath of the thieves’ foiled heist with scenes depicting them getting ready for the heist.”
