Mad House (2019)

There’s a stigma around mental health and helping people suffering with mental conditions. Especially in Africa, where it goes largely untreated and is looked down on. Dramedy movie Mad House, from acclaimed directors Michael Kwaku Ola and Frank Fifi Gharbin, is trying to bring this crisis to the forefront and get people talking about mental health, while doing it in a fun and understanding way.

It follows two frenemies – Bismark and Richmond – who are suffering from mental struggles after being under pressure at varsity, falling for the same woman and using drugs. They both go to the same mental healthcare facility but experience very different kinds of help, as well as helping to show audiences that there’s not just one kind of mental health problem – they’re as varied as the people who suffer them.

Filmed at the Accra Psychiatric hospital, it stars Kwasi Boadi as Akrobeto, Bismark Nii Odoi (Bismark the Joke), Richmond Amoako, Ekow Smith, Stephen Mawunyo (Oteele), Jessica Williams, Prince Amoabeng, Abeiku Nyame (Jagga Pee), Samuel Dabo, Kofi Adjorlolo, Christian A. Asamoah (Big Akwess), Herbert A. Korley (Aweele) and more.
