Socialites and more hot Kenyan shows on Showmax in November
Some exciting new Kenyan shows are available to binge this month, plus you can enjoy new episodes of some of your favourites.
November is here, and as the reality of the end of 2019 dawns on us, Showmax takes a break from its spooky October line-up with binge-able delights like New Girl S1-7 (because who doesn’t like Schmidt?), The Good Fight S3, HBO’s brand new fantasy series His Dark Materials as well as new local shows like Ma’Empress and Socialites plus new episodes of your favourite shows like Selina, Pete and so much more.
Created by the same team that brought you Sue na Jonnie, MaEmpress is a brand-new comedy that stars Kalasha winner Catherine Kamau “Kate Actress”, Neomi Ng’ang’a (Sumu la Penzi), Brenda Mwai (Our Perfect Wedding S1 host), Nyokabi Macharia and Minne Kariuki as five urban women navigating through life, friendship and everyday struggles with a mix of comedy, drama and Kenyan trends and references that you will immediately recognise.

Created and produced by Philippe Bresson (New Beginnings) and going under the tagline “the lifestyles of the pretty and the desperate”, Socialites brings the much-talked-about drama of “sponsor life” and what it’s really like to live the high life – or at least, to aspire to it. In a “do anything to survive world”, Socialites follows three women in their quest for money and fame in Nairobi.

My Two Wives S1-4
Another Philippe Bresson production, My Two Wives follows Zach (Eddy Peter), a man who is forced to deal with his two wives who all live under the same roof. On one hand, there’s the diva, temperamental Tonie (Diana Mulwa), who is Zach’s legitimate wife, and on the other hand, there’s Damaris (Wakio Mzenge, Selina), a second wife who’s been forced on him due to the traditions of wife inheritance after his brother dies.
Fun fact: At the Kalasha Awards 2018, My Two Wives triumphed against Selina to win Best Actor and Best Actress in a TV Series for Eddy Peter and Diana Mulwa respectively.

In new episodes of Selina, Selina (Celestine Gachuhi), who is back from the dead, continues to “haunt” Rosette (Brenda Wairimu), while also working with Nelson (Pascal Tokodi) to expose her evil deads to everyone. Will Rosette’s sins finally catch up with her? Stream new episodes of Selina on Showmax this November to find out.
If you are not already watching Season 4, maybe these loyal fans will convince you with their tweets:
Even better, Selina has been nominated for three awards at the Kalasha Awards 2019 for Best TV Drama, Best Actress and Best Actor in a TV Drama for Gachuhi and Tokodi respectively.
Catch new episodes of Selina on Showmax every Friday.
The battle for the coveted leadership ring intensifies in Pete and Mbura (Leon Ongaya), who now wears the ring that makes him the chief of Funzi Island, will do anything to keep it.
Directed by AMVCA-winning director Daudi Anguka, Pete follows the bitter rivalry between two brothers Mbura and Jasiri (Mutran Tamim) who fight over the control of Funzi Island after the sudden death of their father. Unlike Mbura, whose hunger for power gets the better of him, the younger brother Jasiri would rather fight battles of the heart to win the love of his life.
Like Selina, Pete has been nominated for Best TV Drama, Best Actress (Sahara Mohammed) and Best Actor in a TV Drama (Leon Ongaya) at the Kalasha Awards 2019.
Njoro wa Uba
Can Njoro’s frustrations get any worse than they already are? It’s a question that Joe Kinyua, who plays Njoro in the comedy-drama series Njoro wa Uba, evades during our phone interview. But one thing is for sure in the new episodes, the drama can never stop and there are even crazier characters we are yet to meet as Njoro, a bank manager turned taxi driver, tries to navigate the unpredictable online taxi business in Nairobi while also raising his young daughter and dealing with his harsh ex-mother-in-law.
Njoro wa Uba, which is barely four months old, has been nominated for Best TV Comedy and Best Lead Actor in a TV Comedy for Kinyua at Kalasha Awards 2019.
