The Wife: Behind the Veil: Revisit Zandile and Nkosana’s romance in episodes 3-4

The Wife: Behind the Veil episodes 3-4 are a sure reminder that The Wife is a multi-dimensional drama that not only focuses on cash heists and taxi wars. At the centre of this story is the brotherhood between the Zulu brothers, which surpasses all understanding, and the telenovela also focuses on three key love stories. This week, we’re looking at Nkosana’s love for Zandile, which continues to blaze.

Two things are certain: the brothers will always have each other’s backs, and when they love, they love hard. This week’s episodes of The Wife: Behind the Veil also takes a look at the lengths the brothers are willing to go to get Zandile out of jail.

Most often, actors pull from their own experiences to bring life to their characters. Mondli Makhoba, who plays the role of Nkosana, attests to this statement. In episode 3, Nkosana visits Zandile in jail to break the news about the passing of their son, Mvelo. “That whole scene was hard to deal with because I had to go back and dig into my personal life when I lost my son. When my son passed I didn’t know … that scene was hard because I had to relive that moment,” says Mondli.

When the brothers fulfil their mission of getting Zandile out of jail it becomes a surreal moment. This jailbreak is a thank-you to Zandile for the sacrifice she made 10 years ago.

We all know how much Nkosana respects and loves Zandile – even after so many years without each other, their chemistry is still electrifying. Nkosana even has a shrine dedicated to his love at the entrance of the Zulu home. “For me, I just love how committed Nkosana was to the family. How he led and took the position of being their keeper,” says Khanyi Mbau, when speaking about her perspective and view of Nkosana.

There is something magical about the bond between the Zulu brothers – and The Wife: Behind the Veil delves into the cardinal principles of this brotherhood.

Bonko Khoza, who has been nominated for a SAFTA for his role, explains the different layers of each brother when he says, “Nkosana and Mqhele are more alike. Mqhele is someone Nkosana can trust. Nqoba is like a loose cannon. Sambulo, who’s like a weed head. He’s smart but from his brothers’ perspective, he’s just a weed smoker – which causes tension between him and his brothers.”

The scenes in which the brothers fight, either with each other or to defend one another, are some of the most popular among fans. In episode 4 of The Wife: Behind the Veil, we discover the fundamental values that support this powerful brotherhood. When one brother does something wrong, he gets disciplined by the older brothers.

When the brothers find out that Mqhele abused Hlomu, they sit him down and gave him a serious beating. But all of this is done out of love and wanting each other to be accountable for their actions.

What’s also beautiful to witness is the undeniable chemistry the brothers have on- and off-screen. “Getting along and being a unit made it easy for us to act out the bonds and relationships between eight close brothers,” says Abdul Khoza, who plays Nqoba and recently won the DStv MVCA Award for the role and got nominated for a SAFTA.
