Wesens (2020)
When a strange object lands in the middle of nowhere in 1967, four South African Republican Intelligence Agents set out to investigate a mystery that will lead one of them on a life-changing spiritual quest.
A first-of-its-kind Karoo sci-fi mystery, Wesens stars Silwerskermfees Best Actor Award winners Pietie Beyers (Skemerson, Vergeet My Nie) and Morné Visser (Die Stropers, Dis ek, Anna), alongside Randy Januarie (Die Sentrum, Projek Dina), and ATKV Veertjie and Fleur du Cap Award winner Albert Maritz (Alles Malan, Dwaalster).
Blending art-house and found-footage techniques, the film has drawn critical acclaim across the country, with Rapport hailing it as “groundbreaking”, RSG calling it, “One of the rarest films ever made in Afrikaans”, and critic Leon van Nierop saying, “Wesens is like nothing you have ever seen in Afrikaans… One of my top films of 2020.”
