Gqeberha: The Empire S1
Set in Gqeberha, Mzansi Magic’s telenovela centres on businessman Luzuko Mxenge, who seems to have it all: success, money, love, family, power and respect – plus three beautiful (but very different) wives… But why let that stop him from wanting more?
Mbulelo Grootboom (Luthando in Skemerdans) stars as Luzuko, with SAFTA nominees Zikhona Sodlaka (The Wife, Blood Psalms) and Zandile Msutwana (The Queen) as Bulelwa and Zimkhita respectively. Kay Bikitsha (Siyamthanda in The Queen) is Nozuko, Anele Matoti (1960, Recipes for Love and Murder) is Msimelelo, breakout heartthrob Thembinkosi Ngcukana is Thulani, and rising star Akhenime Mfenyana is Anathi.
Filmed in the Eastern Cape, Gqeberha: The Empire is created and executive produced by multiple-SAFTA winners Phathu Makwarela and Gwydion Beynon of Tshedza Pictures, who’ve given us shows like Adulting, Outlaws, and The River.
