The unexpected crossover: The Mommy Club Sugar & Spice meets The Real Housewives of Durban
The Mommy Club Sugar and Spice and The Real Housewives of Durban crossover we didn’t know we needed just happened. While it was an exciting moment for reality TV lovers to see Maria and Neil, there were some hiccups. Resh wasn’t quite happy with how Maria handled a conversation about Christina and mental health.
She expressed this while catching up with her long-term bestie, Lee. Resh told her friend that she attended Lenore’s son’s birthday and filled her in on what happened at the celebration. “Lee is one of the friends you can talk and tell everything and she’s ready to be on your side. And she’s also going to tell you like it is when she needs to.”
Awkward encounters
She told Lee that Neil and Maria from The Real Housewives of Durban also made an appearance at the birthday party. “Everybody was so awkward because we didn’t know whether to treat them as ordinary people, reality star people, what we heard on social media about them. So, it was a little bit awkward,” Resh reflected.
She shared with her friend that Maria started lecturing the group about mental health after hearing about Christina’s struggles from Lenore. Resh didn’t like that Maria was telling everyone to be kind to Christina because according to her, Maria is not very kind on The Real Housewives of Durban. “Everybody was talking. We were just about realising maybe she’s [Christina] got a mental health problem…” She said some of the younger Mommy Club girls said they’re not ready to forgive Christina as she had been mean to them.
Not a safe space
She explained that the older ladies were a bit more understanding about Christina’s ordeal. Resh also wasn’t pleased about Maria’s remarks about the group not really understanding mental health and them not being fully equipped to have an opinion. “It was just such an odd experience and also, she hasn’t met Christina. She literally sat there talking down to us how you should be kind … And so, I said, ‘listen, it’s not about us. We can be supportive of Christina but at the moment, the way she carries on, she will not be able to hold down a job’.”
Resh told Lee that Maria snapped at her, telling her that this isn’t a workplace, but it’s supposed to be a friendship. Resh made it clear that they are not Christina’s safe space as she’s been rude to a number of the ladies. “I’m not ready to be friendly with her,” she added.
