Yacht Rock: A DOCKumentary on Showmax

Music Box: Yacht Rock: A DOCKumentary (2024)

Yacht Rock: A DOCKumentary chronicles the rise, fall, and rise again of soft rock. Retroactively dubbed "Yacht Rock", the easy-listening genre came to be gently mocked and even dismissed by rock lovers and critics. Dubbed "perfect sitting-down dancing music" by Questlove, it has reclaimed its place in music history and is celebrated in this groove-infused film.

Directed by Critics' Choice Documentary Award nominee Garret Price (Daisy Jones & The Six), Yacht Rock features conversations with the likes of Kenny Loggins, Christopher Cross, Michael McDonald (Steely Dan and The Doobie Brothers), Steve Porcaro, Steve Lukather and David Paich (Toto), Prince Paul (De La Soul), Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson (The Roots), Mac DeMarco and comedian Fred Armisen.

The HBO doccie has a 91% critics’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with FilmWeek calling it “fascinating and wonderful”.
