And now, staying connected to all this entertainment just got easier and more convenient.

Introducing Baxi by Onafriq

Starting Monday, 22 December 2025, existing Showmax customers can log into the Baxi by Onafriq app to pay for any of Showmax plans using a verified mobile number.

What this means is that customers can now complete their entire subscription process within the Baxi app.

To use this payment method, your mobile number must be verified – that is, it’s been confirmed as yours and linked to your Showmax account. Why? Because your mobile number becomes your unique payment ID. It’s how we securely match your top-up to your account, ensuring a smooth and hassle-free experience.

If you are new to Showmax, no worries! After creating a Showmax account you will receive an OTP via SMS or WhatsApp, which allows you to verify your mobile number and immediately return to the Baxi app to top up and activate your subscription.

Are there any conditions attached to this payment method?

Customers need to verify their mobile numbers

The system will create partial accounts for customers without Showmax accounts or verified mobile numbers.

Customers with a card stored as a method of payment will be able to use that card to pay for any outstanding balance that is required if the Showmax account does not have sufficient funds.

How to verify your mobile number

·       Go to Showmax.com and sign in.

·       Go to Account via the top-right menu bar.

·       Select Settings and click Update/Verify Mobile Number.

·       Enter your Showmax password and click Continue.

·       Enter your new mobile number and click Update/Verify Mobile Number.

·       Check your text messages for a One Time Passcode.

·       Enter the One Time Passcode on your account page and click Confirm.

How does a customer top up their Showmax account with funds?

User goes to the Baxi app or selected payment points, selects free entry and amount they want to top up their Showmax account.

Default top-ups will also occur if you select the same active plan at a partner e.g. I have GE Mobile active and selected GE mobile at a Baxi agent.

Will the Baxi app validate if the customer already exists on Showmax?

Yes. When the user captures the mobile number on Baxi, a search is done against Showmax to check if there is already a customer account on Showmax against the verified mobile number.

Existing Showmax Customer with a verified mobile number - If a Showmax verified mobile number is captured, the system will allow the customer to continue with the top-up without creating a partial account.

Existing Showmax Customer with unverified mobile number - If a non-verified existing Showmax mobile number is captured, a Showmax account will be automatically created for the customer using the mobile number that was captured.

New-New Customer (mobile number not verified) – If a new-new customer captures their mobile number, a Showmax account will be created for that customer using the mobile number that was captured.

For an existing Showmax customer, whose mobile number is yet to be verified, will the App detect that this customer already has a Showmax account and only needs to verify the mobile number rather than just creating a new account for the customer?

No. If an existing Showmax customer enters a mobile number that is not yet verified on the Showmax platform, the system will create a new Showmax account linked to that number.

That is why it’s important for existing customers to verify their mobile number on Showmax.com before proceeding to subscribe, to avoid duplicate account creation.

What if I entered the OTP confirming the new account without knowing that it would create a new account? What should I do?

This will be your new account with the mobile number as the identifier because it was verified by OTP, meaning you are the owner of the mobile number.

You would then have 2 accounts where one is with email address login (but without a verified mobile number) and the second one with mobile number as the identifier where you can use to login and pay using Baxi
