Inside Showmax's star-studded premiere of the new Kenyan series Faithless
Ahead of its official launch on 6 July, Showmax treated guests to an exclusive screening of the new Kenyan Showmax Original crime drama Faithless on Wednesday, 28 June.
Held at Westgate Mall, Westlands, the event was hosted by Homeboyz presenter Lotan Salapei. In attendance were the cast of Faithless, including the four leading ladies, Rosemary Waweru, Avril Nyambura, Beatrice Mwai and Fatma Mohammed. Also gracing the event was the cast of the Showmax Originals Second Family and Pepeta, as well as members of the press and executives from Showmax and MultiChoice.
Set in the aftermath of a heist gone bad, Faithless follows four church faithfuls who are drawn into a life of crime and violence when their chama (women's guild) is turned into a money-laundering operation by a dangerous crime lord.
“Faithless is a story that just fits into the Kenyan context very well,” said director Abdi Shuria. “It’s a story that just came naturally so we didn’t have to struggle with the ideas.”
Shuria, who’s also helmed Igiza, co-directs Faithless alongside King Muriuki (Igiza) and Janet Chumbe (Sanura). All three directors attended the premiere.
Speaking about what attracted her to the show, Chumbe said, “I was really interested in this spiritual aspect of Faithless, and how it spirals into something else as the show proceeds. The thing about prayer is that you pray for stuff but you never really know how it’s going to be answered, and that’s the same for our four leading women - their prayers are answered, but not just how they expected.”
Produced by Live Eye TV, Faithless also stars Aleks Kamau (Volume), Morris Mwangi (Famous), Peter Kamau (Selina), Arabron Nyyneque (Second Family), Abubakar Mwenda (Subira), Brian Ngaira (Pepeta), Antony Kyule Njuguna (Sue na Jonnie), Ashley Kareez (Single Kiasi), Steve Matias (State House), Kennedy Luyali (18 Hours), Zawadi Kayyoh (Pieces of Us), Azziad Nasenya (Selina) and news anchor Mark Masai, who all attended the premiere event.
Faithless premieres on Showmax on 6 July 2023, with new episodes every Thursday.
