A princess, a throne, and a battle for power: stream Kabiyesi now
Showmax’s Yoruba epic drama, Kabiyesi, is now streaming with new episodes dropping every Friday. The historical drama is setting the stage to take viewers deep into the heart of Oyo-Ile, where love, ambition, and betrayal shape the fate of a kingdom.
The premiere episode kicks off with the grand wedding preparations of Princess Aderiyife (Annetta Adebusuyi) and Prince Obabamiji (Amokun Ibrahim) of Igboho. But things take a turn when Prince Adebamgbe (Akeem Ogara) mysteriously disappears, triggering unrest in the palace. His sudden return doesn’t ease tensions – especially for Kabiyesi, King Adegoke (Akin Lewis), who fears for his son’s future in the dangerous world of Oyo-Ile’s politics.

The ceremony itself is anything but smooth. A charged face-off between the kings of Oyo-Ile and Igboho hints at deeper rivalries, momentarily masked by forced laughter. Meanwhile, Princess Aderiyife isn’t just a pawn in palace politics – she’s ready to challenge her father’s authority if it means following her heart. But before she can make her move, chaos erupts with a shocking attack on Kabiyesi.
As enemies now close in from all sides, both within and beyond the kingdom, Aderiyife must rise to the challenge. Whether by birth or by blood, she must become the leader that Oyo-Ile needs.
Produced by Seyi Babatope, Kabiyesi draws inspiration from the legendary Orompoto, the only female Alaafin of Oyo, who ruled the empire in the 16th Century. Blending historical themes with gripping drama, the series explores power, ambition, and cultural heritage.
Stream the first episode of Kabiyesi now on Showmax. New episodes are released every Friday.
