Faizon Love joins Laugh Africa Comedy Festival as new headliner

Following the recent announcement of Deon Cole’s withdrawal due to an unforeseen medical emergency, the Laugh Africa Comedy Festival is proud to announce that Faizon Love, the iconic American comedian, and actor, will step in as the festival’s new international headliner. 

Best known for his standout performances in classics such as Friday, the holiday hit Elf, and audience favourites like Couples Retreat, Money Talks, and The Perfect Holiday, Love brings decades of comedic excellence to the stage. His diverse filmography includes roles in Don’t Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood, Blue Crush, The Parent ‘Hood, Real Husbands of Hollywood, Black-ish, and The War with Grandpa alongside Robert De Niro. 

“Faizon brings a unique blend of sharp wit, cultural commentary, and undeniable stage presence that perfectly aligns with the spirit of the Laugh Africa Comedy Festival,” says Stuart Taylor, Creative Director of the festival. “We’re incredibly excited to welcome him to the lineup.” 

Love will headline the festival on Saturday, 3 May and Sunday, 4 May 2025 at the Sandton Convention Centre, closing out a weekend of unfiltered laughter and unforgettable performances. 

What to expect at the Laugh Africa Comedy Festival 

The three-day festival is the continent’s biggest celebration of comedy, blending local legends, rising stars, and global icons across a variety of comedic styles. 

One of the key highlights is the highly anticipated Showmax Roast of Helen Zille, featuring co-Roast Masters Tumi Morake and Trevor Gumbi. Known for their razor-sharp wit and fearless delivery, they’ll lead a powerhouse panel that includes Loyiso Gola, Bongani Bingwa, Rian van Heerden, Zwai Bala, JJ Tabane, Mel Viljoen, Coconut Kelz (appearing virtually), Sizwe Mpofu-Walsh, Londie London, and a surprise wildcard appearance by Patricia de Lille. 

The festival also shines a spotlight on African comedic excellence, with performances by Felix Hlophe, Eugene Khoza, Celeste Ntuli, Nina Hastie, Angel Campey, Alan Committie, Rob Van Vuuren, Jam Jam the Comedian, Kagiso ‘KG’ Mokgadi, Mark Banks, Nonto R, and Robbie Collins. International acts include Griff (USA), Salvado Ombokolo (Uganda) and Eric Lu Savali (Kenya).
