This season, look out for 2024 Naledi winner Cintaine Schutte (Fynskrif) as Maggie, Shay’s older crush, and Zandelle Meyer (Trompoppie) as Jessie, the girls’ new “house daughter”.
At the kykNET Silwerskerm Awards 2024, Wyfie won Best Newcomer (Mienke Ehlers as Mia) and Best Supporting Actor (Marguerite van Eeden as Wilmien), as well as an Inclusive Lens Award for LGBTQIA Representation at MIPAfrica in 2024.
Wyfie was also up for Outstanding Use of Locations at the Global Production Awards, presented by Screen International, against two Netflix productions shot in Norway: Troll and Ragnarok, plus as Best Soap or Telenovela, against the likes of EastEnders, at the 63rd Rose d’Or Awards.
Produced by Homebrew Films (Trompoppie), Wyfie is directed by SAFTA winner Johan Cronjé (Wonderlus, Nêrens, Noord-Kaap), first-time director Eva du Preez (a Silwerskerm winner and two-time SAFTA nominee as an editor, with credits like Kanarie and Trompoppie) and rising star Emilie Badenhorst (2023 Silwerskerm Best Short Film and Best Direction winner ‘n Doop om Stilte).

Beáta Bena Green stars as Shay, a soft-hearted and socially conscious drama student who feels overshadowed by her politically active father.

Celeste Loots as Amanda
Celeste Loots plays Amanda, Shay’s high school best friend and adventurous yet destructive nightmare roommate. Amanda is a brilliant chemical engineering student with rage issues.

Kristen Raath as Kyla
Kristen Raath plays Kyla, a highly religious and controlled student from a small town, under significant pressure due to her many responsibilities.

Mienke Ehlers as Mia
Mienke Ehlers stars as Mia, a political sciences and economics student who doubles as the residence drug dealer, rebelling against three generations of her family.
