Premier League stars lighting up this year’s UEFA EURO spectacle

More than a hundred Premier League players will be featuring at this year’s UEFA EURO’s. That totals to around a sixth of the 600-plus players who will be battling it out with their respective nations at EURO 2024.

Manchester City have the highest number of representatives, and 24 of the 26 players from the England squad are contracted to Premier League clubs.

Showmax takes a look at some of the Premier League stars who will be featuring at this year’s football spectacle in Germany, which kicks off tonight with the hosts taking on Scotland in a mouth-watering clash.

Jérémy Doku: Manchester City and Belgium

From the Anderlecht Academy’s never-ending supply of great footballers, Jérémy Doku has made a name for himself in the Premier League with Manchester City. He is now set to dazzle with Belgium at Euro 2024.

Josko Gvardiol: Manchester City and Croatia

At the age of 22, the defender has won the Premier League title, the FIFA Club World Cup, the UEFA Super Cup and the DFB-Pokal twice. He has played in the final of the FA Cup and the semi-finals of a World Cup. There is plenty more to look forward to, beginning with the European Championship in Germany.

Kevin de Bruyne: Manchester City and Belgium

A devastating four-month injury curtailed the first half of De Bruyne’s 2023/24 campaign, but he’s since made a full recovery and is now on course to shine at EURO 2024. He is without a doubt one of the Premier League’s biggest stars.

Phil Foden: Manchester City and England

Phil Foden was voted the best player in the 2023/24 season after inspiring Man City to a fourth successive Premier League title. Gareth Southgate will be banking on him to propel England to the EURO title in Germany.

Rodri: Manchester City and Spain

Fresh from winning the Premier League title with Manchester City, Rodri will be looking to inspire Spain to their first EURO title since 2012.

Bukayo Saka: Arsenal and England

At just 22, Bukayo Saka will be playing in his second EURO tournament. After another sterling season with Arsenal, he will be looking for redemption in Germany after his penalty miss in the final at Wembley handed the title to Italy.

Declan Rice: Arsenal and England

Declan Rice has expressed confidence that England can “do something really special” at EURO 2024 and go one step further than the last EUROs. Rice will be central to Gareth Southgate’s plans for the spectacle.

William Saliba: Arsenal and France

After another stellar season for Arsenal in the Premier League, William Saliba is ready to do it in blue in Germany. The Frenchman is among the best centre-backs in the world at the moment.

Cody Gakpo: Liverpool and Netherlands

Ronald Koeman will look to the Liverpool forward to provide the fire power needed for the Netherlands to progress in the tournament. Gakpo, who had a reasonable campaign with Liverpool, will look to step it up a notch and guide the Netherlands to glory.

Ibrahima Konate: Liverpool and France

Ibrahima Konate is set to start for France at EURO 2024 ahead of Arsenal defender, William Saliba, teaming up with Dayot Upemacano in the heart of defence. France manager Didier Deschamps expects the two to lead from the back in their quest for glory.

Virgil van Dijk: Liverpool and Netherlands

Captain of the Netherlands since 2018, Virgil van Dijk is preparing for his first-ever UEFA European Championship, having missed UEFA EURO 2020 through injury. However, after leading his side at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, where the Oranje lost out to eventual winners Argentina on penalties in the quarter-finals, the 32-year-old knows all about the challenges of tournament football.

Trent Alexander-Arnold: Liverpool and England

Trent Alexander-Arnold could be England’s best solution to unlocking stubborn opposition defences in the EURO 2024. The Liverpool right back could be handed a place in midfield by manager Gareth Southgate and could very well be the difference maker in England’s hunt for glory.

Dominik Szoboszlai: Liverpool and Hungary

At just 23, Dominik Szoboszlai will captain Hungary at the EURO championship in Germany. The midfielder has just completed his first season in England with Liverpool, and he will be hoping to lead the Magyarok to glory in Germany. It will be the midfielders first ever EUROs.

Cole Palmer: Chelsea and England

The breakout star of the Premier League season, Chelsea’s Cole Palmer can be England’s not-so-secret weapon in Germany. The versatile attacker rarely fails to influence a game, coming into the tournament off an unbelievable club campaign that yielded 42 goal contributions and plenty of big-game performances. It will be interesting to see how Southgate deploys him – and indeed whether he will even start.

Conor Gallagher: Chelsea and England

Manchester United legend Gary Neville has predicted Conor Gallagher will play a key role for England at EURO 2024 this summer. The 24-year-old had a brilliant season for Chelsea and will be hoping to take his form onto the international stage at what will be his second major tournament.

Bruno Fernandes: Manchester United and Portugal

The Portuguese maestro will be heavily relied on by manager Roberto Martinez as Portugal looks to repeat their exploits in 2016. Fernandes has contributed six goals and eight assists to Portugal’s near-perfect qualification phase for the 2024 EURO Cup in Germany: 10 games, 10 wins, 36 goals scored, and only two conceded. Fernandes and Ronaldo will be the cornerstone to Portugal’s hunt for glory.

Rasmus Hojlund: Manchester United and Denmark

It was a strange season for Rasmus Hojlund, with the young striker netting 16 goals coming in Manchester United’s average campaign. He has been a more regular goal-scorer for Denmark, though, netting seven times in eight appearances in qualifying for EURO 2024, including a hat-trick against Finland. The 21-year-old will shoulder the goal-scoring burden in Germany and will hope a prolific tournament can kickstart his club career.

Kobbie Mainoo: Manchester United and England

Kobbie Mainoo has been tipped to be England’s next Paul Gascoigne at Euro 2024, with Gareth Southgate urged to start the Manchester United star. Mainoo has enjoyed a whirlwind season; from breaking through at United, to earning his first England cap, before heading off to Germany for EURO 2024. Such is his talent, former Three Lions defender Stuart Pearce believes the 19-year-old could be England’s star player at the tournament.

Eberechi Eze: Crystal Palace and England

Eberechi Eze will have been something of a surprise call-up to the England squad for many casual Premier League viewers, but anyone who watched Oliver Glasner’s Crystal Palace side in the months leading up to EURO 2024 will know that he has more than earned his place. The explosive attacker is in the form of his life and can make a serious impact for Gareth Southgate.

John McGinn: Aston Villa and Scotland

Scottish legend Ally McCoist believes John McGinn will be integral to Scotland’s hopes of enjoying a successful UEFA EURO 2024 this summer. The Tartan Army have never progressed from the group stage of a major tournament, and former Scotland striker McCoist believes the Aston Villa midfielder can lead a talented squad to new heights.

Ollie Watkins: Aston Villa and England

Ollie Watkins’ impressive form for Aston Villa last season landed him a spot in England’s EURO team. If he can replicate his form for Villa in the national jersey, there is no doubt Watkins will be a starter for Southgate.

Anthony Gordon: Newcastle United and England

The only specialist left winger in the entire England squad, that could well play into Anthony Gordon’s favour given his consistent form over the season. A refreshingly direct runner who does not disappoint with his end product, the 23-year-old reached double figures in both goals and assists for Newcastle in 2023-24, and will offer something different to the Three Lions’.

Mickey van de Ven: Newcastle United and Netherlands

After his impressive first season with Tottenham Hotspur, the centre-back earned a place in Ronald Koeman’s 2024 European Championship squad. He is definitely a player to keep an eye out for.

Jarrod Bowen: West Ham United and England

The 27-year-old was named in Gareth Southgate’s provisional list of 33 players in May, having impressed during a 2023/24 campaign in which he was crowned Hammer of the Year, netted 20 times in all competitions and equalled Paolo Di Canio’s Club record for goals in a Premier League season, with 16.

The 2023 UEFA Europa Conference League final match winner also registered 10 assists in the season just ended, proving his worth and versatility, while his non-stop energy and work-rate have never been in question.

Milos Kerkez: Bournemouth and Hungary

The 20-year-old is coming off a solid debut season with Bournemouth in which he started 22 matches and played nearly 2 000 league minutes. That’s impressive for any player his age, particularly one making the leap from the Eredivisie that’s proved so difficult for so many players before him. Kerkez is already being tipped for a big transfer in the very near future.

Amadou Onana: Everton and Belgium

Amadou Onana has revealed he is hoping his performances at EURO 2024 this summer can earn him a big-money transfer to a “top club”. The talented midfielder had a great season with his club, despite a woeful campaign by Everton.

Joao Palhinha: Fulham and Portugal

The tough tackling defensive midfielder, who has enjoyed two superb seasons at Craven Cottage since moving from Sporting Lisbon, has become a regular in Roberto Martinez’s side over the past 12 months. Palhinha has won 25 senior caps for his country and will be hoping to help Portugal lift the trophy in Munich in July.
