Showmax Originals secure nominations at 11th AMVCAs
The nominees for the 11th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCAs) have been announced and Showmax Originals have emerged strong contenders with Princess on a Hill, Cheta M, Style Magnate, Wa Milele, Subterranea and Untying Kantai securing 12 nominations across eight categories.
Leading the charge is the Nigerian corporate drama Princess on a Hill. The series garnered five nominations for Best Scripted Series, Best Editing for Laughter Ephraim and Peter Ugbede, and Best Writing TV Series for Bibi Ukpo, Niyi Adeniji, and Sonia Nwosu. Notably, Bimbo Manuel received his inaugural AMVCA nomination for Best Lead Actor, while Efa Iwara earned a nod for Best Supporting Actor.

Further cementing Showmax’s hold in the scripted drama category, Cheta M, the epic Nigerian drama directed by James Omokwe, secured two nominations: Best Scripted Series and Best Writing TV Series for Ifeanyi Chidi Barbara.
In the unscripted series category, the Showmax Nigerian Original fashion and design show, Style Magnate, and Tanzanian reality show, Wa Milele, received nominations for Best Unscripted Series, with Wa Milele also receiving a nomination for Best Indigenous Language East Africa, highlighting the platform’s diverse content offerings.
Additionally, Showmax’s Kenyan sci-fi drama Subterranea received a nomination in the Best Indigenous M-Net Original category while dramedy Untying Kantai garnered a nom for Best Writing TV Series.
The nominations, which lean heavily towards critical recognition, underscore a shift in the AMVCAs’ selection process, which is now positioned to recognise both established and emerging talents who have delivered exceptional performances within the year under review.
The awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on Saturday, 10 May 2025, in Lagos, Nigeria.
