Watch a sneak peek here
In our sit-down interview below, Sonia opens up about sharing her story on Untied with Relebogile Mabotja, her journey toward healing, and why Untied is a must-watch.
What do you hope women take away from your story?
I want for them not to believe the facade of a happy and wholesome life just by observing from the outside. For them not to envy.
You want the greener grass? Better have the stomach for the amount of manure it comes with.
Has sharing your story played a role in your healing process?
It definitely has. Sharing my story is part of my journaling process, and journaling heals.
Why do you feel it’s so important for women to have honest conversations like this?
It’s important for women to have these conversations because social media has unearthed phoney and pretentious behaviours. We need to talk about real lives and daily struggles behind our smartphones. The lives without the filters. The days when you don't have the strength to adult, where you just want to be left alone. Such honest convos remind you to check yourself. I always say: till it happens to you.
How can women better support each other through difficult times?
Women can support each other by being there for each other, listening with great veneration and not judging. Don't ever tell me how to handle a situation because, when faced with it, you will deal with it in a way that you could never comprehend.
Why do you think people should watch Untied?
I feel like people need to watch because they might pick up red flags that I probably missed in my life, then hopefully save themselves from misery and heartache.
On Untied, you can watch Nonku Williams, Palesa Madisakwane and now Sonia share their stories with honesty and vulnerability, like you’ve never heard before. Still to come are raw and revealing conversations with reality star Beverly Steyn, celebrated actresses Dawn Thandeka King and Mona Monyane, and media personality Zandi Nhlapo. Each woman reflects on how life changed after walking away from the love they once thought would last forever.
