Where to see the cast of Queen Modjadji on Showmax
The eagerly anticipated epic drama series Queen Modjadji premiered on Mzansi Magic on 14 July 2024.
The new Sunday night prime-time drama draws inspiration from the life of the legendary Balobedu rainmaker, the first Queen Modjadji, whose bloodline has ruled Southern Africa’s Lobedu clan for centuries. Queen Modjadji comes hot off the trail of Shaka iLembe, which became Google’s most searched for TV series in South Africa in 2023, with its premiere attracting over four million views and an audience share of over 45% in its time slot.

Makoma Mohale
Rising star Makoma Mohale stars as Maselekwani, the young queen-in-waiting whose reign as the hereditary Queen Modjadji will bring about a golden age of peace and prosperity for the Balobedu people of Limpopo. Though this is Mohale’s first major role in a drama series, she’s no stranger to the small screen, having starred in popular shows such as The River. The 27-year-old actress, who is a BA performing arts graduate, has also graced the stage in productions such as Too Sweet Too Bad, Fright Alah and The Infidel.

Sipho Ndlovu
Sipho plays the role of General Phaahla, the cunning general of the Bapedi kingdom. Showmax’s first telenovela The Wife became a hit show in South Africa, and you will remember Sipho as one of the Zulu brothers on the show. He has also racked up an impressive list of roles in television shows like The Queen and Isibaya.

Wiseman Zitha
Wiseman plays the role of Mamaila, King Mugodo’s estranged son who is raised by King Thulare. The award-winning actor is no stranger to the small screen, having featured on shows like Rockville, The River, Entangled, and the Showmax film Musangwe, which premiered at Joburg Film Festival this year.

Aubrey Mmakola
Mmakola plays the king of the neighbouring Bapedi kingdom. Aubrey has established himself as Mzansi’s fan favourite, with roles in hit shows like iKhaya, Isithembiso, Gomora and Mzali Wami.

Thabo Bopape
Thabo plays the Supreme Mambo/King of the Kharanga Kingdom, who is obsessed with becoming the greatest rainmaker and is racing against time to fix his mistakes and restore the balance as required by his ancestors and end a severe drought. He’s an Mzansi film director and producer who is also a familiar face on screen, having appeared on numerous television series like Gomora, Binnelanders and Arendsvlei.

Ngelekanyo Ramulodi
Ngele made her first appearance on Mzansi Magic’s Isiphiwo, and you might recognize her from Fatal Seduction and Noughts & Crosses. On the series she plays the young Modjadji, 14-year-old Maselegwani.
Helen Lebepe
Helen, who has several acting roles under her belt, including Mzansi Magic’s Saints & Sinners, will play the role of Raisibe. In the story, Raisibe assists Modjadji to get a view into the real world of her people and grows to become her confidante.
Masutang Rasekele
Masutang is a fresh new face on the screen and plays Dzugudini, the daughter of the Rain King and the mother of Queen Modjadji. Dzugudini is a crucial part in the Lovedu history as she is instrumental in saving the kingdom from a catastrophe of drought.
Candy Tsamandebele
She plays the role of one of Supreme King/Mambo Mugodo’s wives and stepmother to Maselekwani.
As an award-winning musician, who is renowned for embracing her Balobedu culture, dressing in traditional attire and singing in Khelovedu, Candy is a fitting addition to the cast: Mzansi Magic has confirmed that stars were chosen not just for their acting prowess, but for their ability to master the Khelovedu language.
Putla Sehlapelo
Putla plays the role of Ramulodi, the king’s secret keeper. Putla is a renowned actor in South Africa, with his role in the long running soap opera Skeem Sam as fan favourite principal Alfred Magongwa. He has also featured in hit shows like Death of a Queen, The Wild, Generations and Intersexions.
Shudu Musida
Former Miss SA Shudu Musida will be making her screen acting debut on the series, portraying the role of Muthanoni Mulalo, one of the king’s wives from the VhaVenda Royal Family.
Ndavi Nokeri
The former Miss SA plays the role of Muthanoni Khensani, another one of the king’s wives from the VaTsonga Royal Family. Ndavi was crowned Miss SA in 2022 and represented South Africa in the Miss Universe Pageant during the same year.
Mudi Mudau
Mudi plays the role of Khadikhulu, who is Maselekwani’s rakhadi (aunt), head teacher and adviser. Mudi is well known for her role as Nkele in Mzansi soapie Muvhango.
Priscilla Raboroko
She plays the daughter of young Maselekwani’s minders, who is the queen-to-be’s childhood companion and trusted friend.
Moses Raseleke
Moses plays the role of Mphabantshi, the royal healer, prophecy teller and spiritual leader.
Also look out for Matwetwe star Tebatso Mashishi as Dabedi.
