3 real-life secrets that touched our souls on reality show Confessions
A wife who strayed outside her marriage, a friend who is sleeping with her best friend’s dad, and a mother who gave away her son’s inheritance.
Like Nollywood actor and host of Confessions Seun Ajayi says, “secrets are like weeds in a beautiful garden: once left to grow, they can destroy something that was once beautiful.”
Confessions is one of the new Africa Magic reality TV shows telling stories about average Nigerians. New episodes arrive weekly on Showmax straight after they air.
The show provides a safe environment for people to confront their fears and confess to their beloved the secrets that have been tormenting them.
Here are three heartfelt Confessions from the show.
A wife betrays her husband’s trust
Charles and Maryjane are happily married with three boys, but there is a long-buried secret that could potentially undo their marriage. After their first kid, Charles became distant, and when Maryjane complained, he told her she had no right to demand his attention, since they weren’t married then.
As they grew apart, Maryjane suspected it was because he was having an affair, so she sought love and attention with someone else… one of Charles’s friends, Ifeanyi. This happened seven years ago.
After she shared this secret on the show, Charles told Maryjane that he forgave her, but backstage he said he wanted to kill someone. “I do not forgive her!” he said.
What will happen to the couple now that the secret is out?
Dating your best friend’s dad
Precious and Sandra have been best friends for years, and Sandra thinks of Precious as a sister. She even took Precious to her family home and recommended her as a wife to her brother.
And that’s the problem. Precious is worried this secret will destroy the potential relationship with Sandra’s brother. She has been having an affair with Sandra’s daddy. But that’s not all: she stole the man’s ₦75 000 and watched him accuse his daughter, damaging their relationship.
“You made me a thief in my own father’s home,” Sandra says, holding back tears. “No wonder my dad stopped a lot of things he has been doing for me, thinking I stole his money.”
A mother gifts her boyfriend her son’s inheritance
Children look to their mothers as incorruptible beings who can never do wrong, so you can imagine Ebis’s heartbreak when he hears his mother’s betrayal.
Ebis’s parents are separated. He’s closer to his father but his mum thinks otherwise.
“I’m close to my mum, but not that close,” he says on the fourth episode of Confessions. “I’m closer to my father. Whenever I want to have intimate conversations, I call my dad, and if he’s not available, I just keep it to myself.”

The 19-year-old was gifted land by his father, who instructed his mother to give him the ownership documents when he became an adult. But while raising money to pursue greener pastures overseas with her boyfriend, his mother sold the land without informing her ex or her son.
The worst part: she was duped by her boyfriend, for whom she was going to abandon her kids.
