7 movies and series on Showmax nominated for AMVCAs
It’s Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCAs) season and we couldn’t be more excited about the fashion, glitz and glam that usually comes with Africa’s most prestigious celebration of film and TV talent behind and in front of the cameras. Nollywood sweethearts Ibrahim Suleiman and Linda Ejiofor recently announced the nominees in a live broadcast.
Here’s a list of AMVCA nominees you can stream on Showmax:

1. Plan B
This Nigerian-Kenyan production received three nominations – Best Lighting Designer, Best Movie East Africa as well as a nod for Etim Effiong as Best Actor in a Comedy (Movie or TV Series).
Plan B tells the story of Lisa Waweru, a stylist in Nairobi who falls pregnant after a drunken one-night stand with a wealthy Nigerian tech CEO, Dele Coker. She and her best friend come up with an elaborate plan for him to take responsibility for the child, but Lisa finds she’s taken on more than she bargained for.
Plan B was written and directed by Nigerian filmmaker LowlaDee and produced by Sarah Hassan. Watch it here »
2. Truth
Earning a nomination for Best Television Series Drama Or Comedy, Truth is a Nigerian crime drama that centres around the mysterious death of Rotimi Bakare and the ensuing investigation into his murder.
The show stars Sola Shobowale, Tina Mba, Mawuli Gavor, Ademola Adedoyin, Chy Nwakanma and The Voice’s Osebuka Chike-Ezekpeazu.
It was co-produced by Adaora Mbelu and MTN Project Fame alumnus, Anis Halloway, who also directed the show and produced the theme song. Watch it here »

3. Life of Bim
A 32-year-old man lives a life of apathy after his dreams of becoming a professional footballer were snuffed out by parental pressure in his teenage years.
Directed by Moses Akerele, Life of Bim stars Kelechi Udegbe, Omowumi Dada and Tunbosun Aiyedehin. The film earned a Multichoice Talent Factor nomination. Watch it here »

4. Dream Chaser
Another Multichoice Talent Factor nominee, Dream Chaser tells the story of a young woman who leaves home for Lagos against her father’s wishes in the hopes of becoming a big music star. But things are never what they seem and she discovers that fame and fortune often come at an unexpected cost.
Dream Chaser is directed by Tochukwu Nwaiwu and has a young cast including Big Brother Naija star Teddy A, Maggie Osiobor and Hilda Bassey. Watch it here »

5. Ensulo
Ensulo is a Multichoice Talent Factor nominee from East Africa.
When King Mfalme falls ill, it’s up to Princess Zuri to rule Ensulo Land, a traditional kingdom that shuns technology. With little experience, and plagued by droughts hitting the neighbouring city, Zuri fights an uphill battle.
Ensulo was directed by Jamal Kishuli and stars Michelle Tiren, Claude Judah and Raymond Ofula. Watch it here »

6. Promises
After the death of his wife during childbirth, a boda-boda (motorcycle taxi) rider struggles to raise his newborn twins and his son alone, trying to honour his promise to his wife.
The East African movie earned a Multichoice Talent Factory nomination and features Lydia Gitachu, Maina Wa Ndung’u, Ryan Mutwiri and Sammy Mwangi. Watch it here »
7. The Painting
After a painting mysteriously appears in the home of a young painter, a series of strange events unfold in this Multichoice Talent Factor nomination from South Africa.
The Painting was directed by Emanuel Goncalves and features Leo Simukok, Chitalu Kaibele and Litrudah Chiti. Watch it here »
