Battle Drone (2018)
Believable CGI! Conspiracy theory plot! Low-budget actors punching above their weight! That’s action movie Battle Drone summed up.
A group of mercenaries is hired for a mission in nuclear wasteland Chernobyl, but their US government bosses are lying to them. What’s waiting is a squad of elite soldier robots that have been programmed to eliminate the threat: the mercenaries.
It’s loads of fun. There’s running, shouting, shooting, car chases – everything you need for a Friday night on the couch. Don’t expect any big names in the cast: the most well-known is Dominique Swain and she’s almost a Z-lister. But don’t let that give you pause – it’s still a (literal) blast.
There’s very little character development but that’s okay because this is a simple skiet, skop en doner flick, says Jim Morazzini from Voices From The Balcony:
“We’ve seen this plot going back at least to Bruno Mattei’s epic slice of Italian cheese Robowar in 1988. More recently Kill Command did an excellent job with the same idea. Nothing new but decent nonetheless.”
