Flawsome recap episode 5: “I broke up with Poju”
Dolapo is troubled and in tears.
“You’re going to die a bitter single woman,” Ranti had told her on the last episode of Flawsome.
Those words ring aloud as she struggles to sleep in her fancy spacious room with no husband or boyfriend. Although they are harsh, Dolapo is smart enough to understand the underlying truth behind them: If she continues to manage assholes like Abel and Senator Jubril, she will lose honest friends and associates. And what is life without those who genuinely love us?
She wonders aloud if she is a bad person and truly feels sorry – so she goes about this episode correcting her wrongs. Her first stop is Ramat. They start awkwardly because Ramat is still angry.
“Winning for you gets you high as cocaine,” she points to Dolapo’s winning-at-all-cost approach.
“You don’t have to take everything that comes your way,” Ramat continues.
“You have gotten to the point where you can pick the right one.”
These are the words someone needed to tell her.
Dolapo came with some peace offering: her plans to deal with Abel. She had already ordered Sarah to meet Eve and get all the necessary information. Apparently, this isn’t the first time Abel is raping Eve; she had filed a police report and presented evidence, but they conveniently dropped the case for being a he-said-she-said matter.
But Dolapo, through Sarah, has gotten Eve’s trust, who will file charges and testify against Abel in court. And Dolapo will be supporting her PR skills, clout and network. Ramat is all smiles. But there is still the little matter of Ranti’s words, and Dolapo is jetting out to the Maldives to relax and clear her head. God when?
Elsewhere, Lerato is making clear the reason she’s suddenly nicer to Ivie. She wants Tersei’s money and believes Ivie is key since he fancies her. But Ivie, forever naïve, doesn’t think he likes her that much. The impertinence resumes slightly after the no-show. Later that day, she is defending working for Lerato when her parents visit for a family dinner. Her mum won’t stop yapping about her siblings excelling financially and in relationships while she’s on a wild goose chase.
Then guess who appears to save the day? Poju. The unemployed, debt-ridden gambling addict boyfriend of hers. He puts on a nice suit and charms her mum with lies that sound so sweet they swallow it all. Ivie is unhappy about the performance; she had told him not to show up at this family dinner. They quarrel as they usually do, but Ivie has had enough. She kicks him out. He tells her she will regret it.
“You will remember this day. You will!”
Then he does that thing he always does. One thing is clear: she will truly remember this day.
