5 shocking moments of truth on Ingane Yam Season 2
After hiding their illegitimate children from their partners, the participants on reality show Ingane Yam finally face their fears and come clean.
These secret children can come from a past romance or even a recent affair. And the participants have been hiding them because they are afraid that their partners will leave them if they find out. So why crack now? Because each participant is tired of living a lie, and they realise that it’s time to face the music.
The revelation is usually followed by awkward silence. Then voices are raised and tears stream under the relentless eye of the camera as none of the partners who come on the show expect what they’ve just been told – that their lover, the person they share a bed with every night, has a secret child outside of their relationship or marriage. The revelation is completely heart wrenching for the partners.
But before the show ends, the participants set about trying to mend the broken trust in their relationships or marriages with the help of the series’ host, The Real Housewives of Durban star Nonkanyiso “LaConco” Conco. Ideally, LaConco would like the couples to find closure and solutions to move forward. In the series, some couples survive the revelation while others call it quits.
Here are 5 shocking moments on Season 2 of Ingane Yam, which had LaConco and viewers at a loss for words…
1. Christopher’s newborn wrecks his relationship
The first episode starts off with a bang! LaConco meets Christopher, who reveals that he had a one-night stand with a woman he met at a tavern. Christopher thought that he would never see the woman again, but she contacted him months later and told him that she was pregnant with his child. Rather than disclose the information to his girlfriend, Dipuo, Christopher hid in plain sight… until his baby-momma blackmailed him.
Now, he wants Dipuo and the world to know that he has a newborn baby. After his confession, Dipuo is crushed. “You’re a dog,” says Dipuo before adding, “You slept with this woman without protection. Why did you trust her so much?”. Their tense confrontation sets the tone for the rest of the season.
2. Siphayena’s double life comes to light
When Siphayena makes it known that he has not only one child outside of his relationship with his girlfriend, Amahle, but two, the room goes cold. It’s soon revealed that Siphayena told Amahle about one child, but he neglected to mention anything about the second because he thought that she would dump him.
What’s worse is that both children are the same age. The bombshell is too much for Amahle and she is speechless.
3. Ouma comes clean
When Ouma met her husband, Jack, in 2006, she introduced her son as her nephew because she was embarrassed to have had a baby out of wedlock. It’s now 16 years later and Ouma realises the repercussion of her lie has been that she missed out on forging a bond with her son.
However, Jack doesn’t take her confession well and while he forgives Ouma, he admits that their marriage will never be the same again as the trust is broken.
4. Zane’s secret jeopardises his marriage
When Zane tells his girlfriend Thato that he has a child, who’s not much older than theirs, she immediately checks out of the relationship. Because Zane is a bit older than Thato, she thought that he had finished playing games and he wanted to settle down. So she was shocked by the fact that he cheated days after she gave birth to their child.
“Men my age now know that I’m single,” says Thato, who’s certain that she’s washed her hands of the relationship. There’s no convincing her otherwise.
5. Dalisu’s marriage is up in the air
There’s always tension when LaConco and the participant deliver the blow, but nothing could’ve prepared MaNgidi when her husband, Dalisu, tells her that he has a three-year-old illegitimate daughter in the season finale. “Repeat the statement,” says the stunned MaNgidi. As per the request, Dalisu reiterates the statement and MaNgidi loses it.
“I thought that everything was going well in our marriage, yet you were busy with other women in Johannesburg?”, a furious MaNgidi demands. She’s so angry that she starts attacking everyone in the room, including LaConco. When the episode ends, MaNgidi and Dalisu’s marriage is up in the air… like a missile.
