It’s a new season of Babes and Mampintsha in Uthando Lodumo! And that can only mean one thing: drama, drama, drama. Now, as we head back into the fiery couple’s home, the drama continues.

For those who don’t know, here’s a quick Babes and Mampintsha biography. Legendary in their own right, the two powerhouse artists played pivotal roles in their respective industries, with both having not only made their mark locally, but internationally as well.
Babes (age 28) and Mampintsha (age 40) met in 2013 when Babes was a fresh-faced 19-year-old musician hoping to make it big in the industry. Eventually, Mampintsha took Babes under his wing, becoming her manager and guiding her through the turbulent local music scene. By the time Babes celebrated her 22nd birthday, sparks were beginning to fly between the two. And so, the turbulent but passionate relationship of Babes Wodumo and Mampintsha started to make headlines. Babes and Mampintsha’s wedding in April 2021 caught several fans by surprise, most notably Babes’ family, her father Reverend Welcome Simelane being the most vocal.
Babes and then-fiancé Mampintsha spent most of the first season of Uthando Lodumo trying to get their families to calmly sit around the same table for lobola negotiations. Things got heated many times, with several instances of both families refusing to even meet with each other. But despite the family feuds, and flipping of wigs, Babes and Mampintsha remained determined to walk down the aisle.
Babes and Mampintsha’s house serves as a backdrop for the second season of Uthando Lodumo. Fans are welcomed into their living space as they not only come to terms with married life, but also raising their baby – lovingly called Sponge – in a world that’s wild, loud and unpredictable.
But what most fans are probably looking forward to most this season is getting answers on all those trending headlines that have left Babes and Mampintsha fans divided. From finances to marital strife and making mistakes – the couple say they’re an open book.
Frequently asked questions
What are Babes and Mampintsha’s families fighting about?
In May 2018, rumours began to surface that Mampintsha was abusing Babes. Not long after, Babes herself confirmed the claims. During an interview with Metro FM’s Masechaba Ndlovu, Babes stated she had been abused and that she had opted to leave the music mogul. However, just a few months later, the two were seen back in each other’s arms.
Less than a year later, in March 2019, Babes posted an Instagram live video in which Mampintsha was seen slapping her in the face several times. With repeated claims of abuse made against Mampintsha, it’s understandable why the two families simply couldn’t see eye to eye. Babes’ father refused to support their nuptials and, in response, Mampintsha’s family felt Babes simply wasn’t good enough for their son and this finally culminated in Babes trashing her mom-in-law Zama Gumede online. Gumede cut all ties with the Gqom queen soon after.
Does Babes have a child?
The couple welcomed their son, whom they endearingly call Sponge, in June 2021. Babes and Mampintsha are known for being extremely protective of their son, rarely showing their bundle of joy to the public.
What’s Babes and Mampintsha’s net worth?
The figures vary greatly depending on who you believe. Some estimates place Babes’ net worth at around just over R1.7 million, while other sources claim she’s worth closer to R17 million. Meanwhile, it’s believed Mampintsha’s net worth clocks in at a hefty R6.8 million.
