With Halloween less than a month away, start getting in the mood by binge-watching Channel Zero: The No-End House, the second instalment of the acclaimed anthology series, where each season is based on a “creepypasta” – a term for horror-related legends passed around the internet.
The first season followed Mike Painter’s growing obsession with the children’s television programme Candle Cove, a creepy puppet show from the 1980s with a disturbing connection to a deadly unsolved mystery from his childhood. Subscribers who streamed the show on Showmax last Halloween are probably still having nightmares about the hungry Tooth Child, a shambling creature made entirely of human teeth.
The No-End House, the second season, centres on Margot (Amy Forsyth from The Path) and Jules (Aisha Dee from The Bold Type), two young friends who visit an eerie house of horrors with a series of disturbing rooms, each more frightening than the last. Upon returning home, Margot discovers that everything has changed.
The critically acclaimed series is created by Nick Antosca (Hannibal, Teen Wolf), who also executive produces alongside Max Landis (Chronicle, Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency). All six episodes are directed by Emmy nominee Steven Piet (Uncle John).
At the time of writing, Channel Zero: The No-End House has a rare 100% critics rating and an 87% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes, where the critics’ consensus is its “central mystery is stronger and scarier than Channel Zero’s first, solidifying its status as one of TV’s scariest horror offerings.”
Collider went further, saying, “Channel Zero retains its mantle as the scariest show on television, without question… The perfect show for the beginning of the Halloween season.”
And i09 hailed it as “skin-crawlingly spectacular… If you thrill to mind-warping horror stories, you do not want to miss this.”
Earlier this year, Channel Zero: The No-End House was nominated for the Saturn Award for Best Presentation on TV by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films – its second nomination in two years.
Binge-watch the complete six-episode series of Channel Zero: The No-End House first and only on Showmax in Africa, then go back and re-watch Channel Zero: Candle Cove.
