Hellboy (2019)

Ron Perlman left huge boots to fill as the child of Hell sent to Earth to protect it from demons, but David Harbour definitely looks the part. You’ll recognise many characters from the original comics, like Dr Broom (Ian McShane) and the Nazis. But how does King Arthur get involved?

Reboots are always difficult and rarely work. While this version is entertaining, fans of the original won’t like it purely because it’s a reboot. That doesn’t mean it’s not a watchable movie.

The CGI is great. The actors are good (there’s also Milla Jovovich as the blood queen with Nimue, Brian Gleeson as the wizard Merlin, and Daniel Dae Kim as a hardcore mutant soldier). Alex Abad-Santos from vox.com says, “its nightmare visuals are stellar”.
