Kyallo Kulture episode 8 recap: Ivanna the Miracle
It’s all about miracles in this week’s episode of Kyallo Kulture on Showmax. It’s Ivanna’s 8th birthday and Betty, in true style, has pulled out all the stops to make sure her daughter’s day is a spectacular success. We also revisit an emotional time in Betty’s life to learn why Ivanna is truly a miracle child.
When Betty fell pregnant with Ivanna in 2014, she’d never been more excited. She had a happy pregnancy and Ivanna arrived in the world perfectly formed and very much loved by her parents, aunties Mercy and Gloria, and devoted grandmother.
Life seemed perfect, until one day, when Ivanna was six, she suddenly couldn’t walk. Betty rushed her to hospital and what followed was weeks and weeks of tests as Ivanna started to slip away and became totally unresponsive.
Doctors didn’t have the answers, and all that the Kyallo family could do was wait and pray, and be there for Ivanna, singing her favorite songs, and playing her favorite music and videos. Betty recounts how in order to distract herself from her fears, she continued working, hiding her pain behind her smile.
Finally, Ivanna’s doctors reached a diagnosis. Ivanna had contracted adem, a rare neurological disorder caused by a viral or bacterial infection. Once she received the correct medication, it wasn’t long until she woke up. After three months in the hospital, Ivanna went home.
Kyallo Kulture episode 8 is a tearjerker, but there’s also plenty to celebrate. We hear from Ivanna’s nurse, occupational therapist and teacher about her strength and bravery in facing the challenges of her long road to recovery. And as Betty, Mercy and Gloria gather around Ivanna on her 8th birthday and to celebrate her preschool graduation, it’s clear to us loyal fans that life is a true miracle!
