Monica S1-3
The Kalasha-nominated Kenyan drama series Monica follows Brenda Wairimu (Disconnect, Subira) in the titular role of Monica, an ambitious young woman from the ghetto who schemes and lies her way to the top.
To achieve this, she inserts herself into the lives of the affluent Jiwes who are impressed by her, not knowing who she really is. Monica manages to get a job at Governor Robert Jiwe’s (Raymond Ofula, The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind) office, and even sets her eyes on the governor’s son Bob (Fidel Maithya, Selina), all while juggling another romance with her true love Mariga (Ephy Saint, Tahidi High).
In the brand-new season 3, Monica’s dreams all seem to be coming true. She’s just about to be appointed to a powerful position at the governor’s office, and her romantic relationships with the two men in her life seem to be going great. But can she really have it all? After all, lies and secrets can only get you so far.
Monica S3 also features Joyce Maina (Aisha, Neophobia), Sam Komora (Aziza), Rosemary Waweru (Tabasamu, Pray and Prey), and Kauthar Kang’ethe (Midlife Crisis, Machachari).
Monica is produced by Scolly Cheruto and directed by Neil Schell, who’ve both previously worked together on another Kenyan drama, Twisted, and Kenya’s first animated superhero series, Machismo.
