Run As One
Sad about not running this year’s cancelled Two Oceans Marathon in Cape Town thanks to Covid-19? Here’s something to sit still for: marathon doccie Run As One on Showmax.
The 2019 production is filled with archive footage from as far back as 1976 when Lesotho’s long-distance star Vincent Rakabaele won the 56km race in a photo finish, through to local athlete Frith van der Merwe’s 1989 race pace that hasn’t been beaten, and more.
The best part is that it has stories from past runners who’ve sweated their way through the race that attracts athletes from across the globe. There are also interviews with global stars like Bruce Fordyce and Willie Mtolo that really drive home the importance of this race to runners and the sport.
There’s no faking. There’s no story of cheating. There’s no fighting between competitors to taint the event’s reputation.
It’s just good, clean running fun. The tagline isn’t wrong either: “You are not running against anyone in the Two Oceans Marathon. You are running with everyone.”
