The audacity of the men on Mnakwethu: Happily Ever After? Season 2
The country was introduced to a group of aspiring polygamists in reality show Mnakwethu, who don’t hold back on drama. With the help of host and popular polygamist Musa Mseleku, the men tell their wives that they’re taking second wives – and their decisions aren’t up for discussion. As if that isn’t dramatic enough, the men also introduce their wives to their mistress, leading to explosive arguments.
What happens to the trios after filming ends? As it plays out in spin-off reality series Mnakwethu: Happily Ever After?, the chaos never ends. The sister-wives continue to clash and some of the men still cheat, despite the fact that they’re living their dreams as they have two wives. However, the most dramatic moment in Season 2 is when a man is accused of using muti to win his mistress’s heart – the audacity! Let’s just say that things didn’t end well for him when his mistress found out that she was under his spell…
Here are the most outrageous events that take place in Season 2 of Mnakwethu: Happily Ever After?, which are instigated by the men.
Gezani takes another wife
It didn’t take long for MaCele to come to an understanding with her sister wife MaMkhize. They agreed that they would remain civil with each other and build a solid family with their husband, Gezani, but the women’s budding friendship is cut short when MaMkhize soon leaves the polygamous marriage.
As a result, Gezani goes behind MaCele’s back and he starts dating a woman called MaBiyela. The shocker isn’t just that MaCele is the last person to find out about Gezani’s infidelity, it’s that she meets MaBiyela at the Season 2 Happily Ever After Reunion episode. As expected, MaCele feels betrayed, and she tells Gezani that she will not accept MaBiyela into her home.
“When MaMkhize left, Gezani struggled to convince her to come back. What if MaBiyela leaves, will he find another woman? So, am I going to suffer because I [allow] him to take another wife?” says the upset MaCele. This matter could’ve been avoided if Gezani was transparent with MaCele from the start.
Thembelani lands in hot water
The main concern with the men in Happily Ever After? is that they keep secrets from their wives. Instead of disclosing to their wives that they are dating another woman – with the potential of marrying them – the men hide their actions until it’s too late. Case in point? Thembelani.
In Season 2, Thembelani invites his mistress MaKhumalo to his home while his wife MaMthombeni is at work. What follows next is disaster as MaMthombeni returns from work early and finds Thembelani and MaKhumalo cosy in the living room. MaMthombeni doesn’t think straight. She rushes to the kitchen, take the kettle holding hot water, and she throws it on MaKhumalo, before the women get into a cat fight.
Thembelani breaks up the fight, but the damage is already done as the women despise each other and MaMthombeni vows that if he continues pursuing MaKhumalo, she will divorce him.
Mbeje’s love potion
The biggest bombshell in Season 2 is when MaVilakazi alleges that her married boyfriend, Mbeje, who is a traditional healer, used love potion to win her heart. At first, Mbeje and his wife MaDanca dismiss the claims but later, he confesses to giving her muti to “strengthen” his relationship with MaVilakazi.
MaVilakazi is so angry with Mbeje’s behaviour that she leaves the relationship. But Mbeje has his reasons for giving her a dash of love potion. “I don’t know if maybe I did put in a bit extra, because when we make measurements, we can’t really be precise.”
Qondanisa gets a taste of his own medicine
Despite the tension that took place when they first met, Qondanisa’s wives MaMchunu and KaMazibuko, who’s better known as Samantha, are in a better place when Season 2 of Happily Ever After? starts. MaMchunu takes on her first wife duties and supports her sister wife, Samantha, throughout her pregnancy, but the women are surprised when they discover that Qondanisa is seeing another woman.
MaMchunu can’t believe her eyes when she is sent pictures of Qondanisa and his mistress on WhatsApp. So, to get back at Qondanisa for cheating, Samantha makes up a story that she also stepped out of the marriage – and she doesn’t know her unborn baby’s paternity.
Qondanisa is beyond livid.
“The child is Qondanisa’s. I just wanted his attention,” says Samantha before adding, “What I don’t like is that as a woman, there’s a certain way in which society expects you to act. Why can’t [Qondanisa] behave himself and [remain faithful]? When he goes out there and [cheats], he is applauded but when a woman goes out there and does the same, she is called all types of names. I’m teaching him to stay in line.”
The bold move from Samantha almost ruins her marriage but it gives Qondanisa a fright and he realises that he could lose both of his wives if he continues deceiving them.
