The Battle of Britney: Fans, Cash and Conservatorship (2021)
Britney Spears went off the deep end so badly – and so publicly – that she was declared mentally incapacitated and put under conservatorship in 2007. In short, she couldn’t buy a bottle of water at the corner café without her dad Jamie’s approval and permission – and she’d still have to ask him for money. Because the courts worried about her mental health and how she’d spend her fortune as a grown woman.
Fifteen years later and Brit-Brit is having a baby with her new hubby and she’s out from under her parents’ control … at the age of 40. This doccie digs deep inside what the last 15 years have been like for the one-time pop superstar, how her mom Lynne and dad plundered her bank account (Jamie even tried to use Britney’s money to pay for his lawyers to defend the conservatorship), and how her fans have stood by her even at her lowest (like when she was running around almost butt-nekkid in an Instagram post).
It’s also a wakeup call: Britney had been telling people for years what was going on and no one – the courts included – listened. She wasn’t going mad, but she was certainly angry!
