The craziest moments in Seasons 1-4 of I Blew It

Bam! And just like that you are a millionaire, baby! But you can quickly go back from riches to rags if you don’t make wise decisions with how you are spending those millions. In the reality series I Blew It on Showmax, former millionaires tell the stories of how they gained a fortune overnight and how it slipped through their fingers thanks to their spending habits and financial inexperience.

Some of the stories are truly mind-blowing so we have compiled the craziest moments from Season 1-4…

Nonhlanhla’s story: S1, episode 1

Nonhlanhla was a shy girl from Diepkloof who was seriously injured in a car accident. With the help of a lawyer friend, she was granted a whopping R1 million from the road accident fund and went bonkers with the money, which was meant to pay hospital bills not just from the accident, but from its possible long-term effects in the future.

Instead, she went shopping every day, boozing at night, and handed out R5 000 wads of cash to relatives like they were packets of crisps. She never let her family down, but things quickly spiralled out of control when she and her auntie started drinking more and more alcohol. The craziest moment in this episode is when it comes out that she spent R60 000 on alcohol alone.

Junior’s story: S2, episode 5

Junior Thabo Khanye is a famous soccer player from Daveyton, a township in the city of Ekurhuleni. In his heyday he was a midfielder for the formidable Kaizer Chiefs Soccer Club and had a credit card with a R1 million-rand limit in his pocket, which he swiped just whenever!

The craziest moment in this episode is when Junior admits that he would just drop R8 000 on a designer shirt because he liked it. He was a famous player and he wanted to look the part.

Bra Eddie’s story: S3, episode 8

Winning the lotto is a dream that some people will probably never achieve. But Eddie was lucky enough to win twice! The first time, the truck driver won R7 million and that was followed by R1 million.

Eddie’s lifestyle soon changed, and he bought himself some cars. He also started wearing expensive imported Italian suits. But if you saw him on the street, his pockets might have looked weirdly bulky. The craziest moment in this episode came with Eddie developing unhealthy spending habits by carrying around R40 000 on him at times. Dude, so much cash!? We’d have sweat stains from worrying that someone might rob us!

Ernst’s story: S4, episode 4

Ernst, or Eric as he is known by his friends, is a Setswana-speaking white man from Sonop in Brits who was awarded around R1.75 million after a motorcycle accident in which he crashed into a tractor and a car drove over him. Yikes! That must have hurt.

He stayed in hospital for three months, and in that time his father gave him some paperwork to fill out. With the help of yet another lawyer, and after five years of waiting, Ernst got the millions as compensation for his injuries. Again, with the road accident fund, this was meant to pay both current and future bills stemming from the injuries.

But instead, life was good, with free-spending Ernst rolling in the dough. The craziest moment in this episode was when he called his buddies over to take pictures with R50 000 cash. Now that’s a $$$elfie!
