The River: Things fall apart for Lindiwe and Zweli
For a long time, it seemed like The River‘s power couple would survive anything and it was quite clear that their love was stronger than any obstacle. But it turns out that there are some things that not even the strongest couple can survive.
We witnessed this after Zweli finally discovered the truth about his wife. The police commissioner’s eyes were opened after Christo confessed that Lindiwe had killed Thato Mokoena and even confirmed that she tried to kill Tumi. He told Zweli that he was paid by Lindiwe to support her story about being framed.
This is obviously the moment we’ve all been waiting for. We were honestly getting tired of seeing Lindiwe getting away with everything. It all had to come to an end eventually.
Zweli asks for a divorce
After learning the truth about Lindiwe, Zweli went home and confronted her. She denied it at first, but eventually confessed to the murder and attempted murder. As expected, she tried to play the victim but Zweli wasn’t buying it. He asked her to pack her bags and leave his house (and take Zolani with her).
Zweli also demanded that she sign over the mine to him if she wants her secret to stay hidden forever. She was left with no choice but to do as he asked. They both agreed that their children would never find out the real reason why they were getting a divorce in order to protect them.
When they announced the news to everyone there was a lot of shock because they were in a good space as a family. No one could understand the sudden change of heart and it was an emotional moment for everyone. Lindiwe and Zolani left the house with nothing but the clothes on their backs and a few things packed in rubbish bags. Ouch!

Mbali rebels
While Andile and Nomonde have welcomed the shocking news, Mbali, on the other hand, is having a tough time accepting the changes. At first, she was crying inconsolably, and that was followed by emotional outbursts. Now she’s found a new way of coping with the pain – alcohol. She’s also mixing with the wrong crowd (Andile’s ex fiancé) and she’s been exposed to drugs.

Even though she hasn’t taken drugs yet, it looks like it’s only a matter of time before she starts.
We can’t help but wonder how far Mbali’s self-destructive ways will take her. If you’re as curious as we are, make sure you watch The River on Showmax. New episodes air 15 minutes after the DStv broadcast.
