The Wife: New car, an engagement, and the Zulu home is set on fire

Mqhele buys Hlomu a car and a ring while the Zulu brothers see flames when the Majolas strike back.

Mqhele takes things to another level by popping the question and the Majolas are still out for vengeance while Sandile makes a return. Let’s give you a rundown of episodes 13-15 of The Wife series on Showmax.

Mqhele is the prime suspect

The Zulu brothers return from a heist and they are all reeling from shock after Mqoqi gets shot. The brothers’ attempt to remove the bullet causes them great anxiety, but fortunately for them, Mqoqi survives. 

As soon as Mqhele arrives from Durban, his brothers suspect that he is the one behind their failed heist. How could things go pear-shaped while he was missing in action? Mqhele cancelled on them at the last minute and they got ambushed?! He makes it difficult for his brothers not to believe in him, but he won’t tell them the truth because he is ashamed of what he did to Hlomu.

One thing about Mqhele, he will go out of his way to prove his loyalty but first, his priority is to win back Hlomu’s heart and trust. Hlomu tells Qhawe about the abusive incident with Mqhele, but she asks him not to tell anyone about it. Qhawe mentions to the brothers that their suspicions of Mqhele are wrong as the car tracker points him to Durban.

Hlomu is off the market

There are still cracks in the relationship when Hlomu and Mqhele return to Johannesburg. Hlomu is still getting flashbacks about the abuse, her bruises are still visible, and her family is worried about her safety.

Mqhele goes out of his way to impress Hlomu by buying her a brand new car. Not only that, he shuts the taxi rank down, makes a fake call pretending to be someone who wants to discuss a scoop about the JSE case to lure Hlomu to go to the taxi rank. When she arrives, Mqhele asks for her hand in marriage. 

“I don’t want to breathe for another second without you by my side. Please allow me to send my uncles to your family,” says Mqhele. He pops the question and Hlomu doesn’t hesitate to say yes.

The Majolas add fuel to the fire

The Majolas turn up the heat in their vengeance plan to destroy the Zulus. Part of Mqhele’s plan to shut down the taxi rank meant everyone had to remove their taxis for one night, including the Majola brothers. They see this as an opportunity to invade the Zulu home and set it alight.

While Mqhele was proposing at the taxi rank, in front of an audience and his brothers, their house went up in flames. What was meant to be a night of celebrating Mqhele’s proposal turns into sorrow. They manage to get to the house and save a bag of money from burning inside, and Nkosana gets burnt in the process but survives.

A dramatic memulo unfolds

It’s Hlomu’s coming-of-age ceremony, known as “umemulo”, which marks the transition of a Zulu girl into womanhood, signifying that she is now ready for marriage. 

While the ceremony is in session, Sandile makes an appearance and Hlomu isn’t pleased at all. Turns out, he was invited by Hlomu’s dad. On the other hand, the Zulu brothers also arrive, but it becomes clear they aren’t welcome but they talk their way through and become part of the ceremony. The ceremony takes a dramatic turn as the Zulu brothers argue with Sandile’s family.

At the end of the day, after having a heated conversation with his daughter, Bab’Dladla gives Hlomu his blessings to marry Mqhele.
