Vula Vala: Will Mzi ever find peace from his troubles?
Mzi gets offered the opportunity of a lifetime and just before it takes off, it’s clogged with so much drama. He learns the hard way that the soccer world has a dark side to it. As if that’s not enough to deal with, he has to do the most outrageous things to save a loved one.
With Gift being a big-headed soccer player, Lefa has been searching to find a new player for the Scorpions to help them reclaim their winning streak. He’s advised by Monai to hit the streets and scout for new talent. While there, they discover Mzi, who’s insanely gifted. Will Mzi be the answer to the Scorpions’ shortcomings?
Mzi’s new path doesn’t sit well with his mom
When Mzi’s mom, Dudu, finds out that her son is trialling for the Scorpions team, she immediately seems uneasy and orders him to forget about soccer and focus on what his father sent him here for — to work at his uncle’s supermarket. “Tell me, how many soccer players died with nothing?” she asks.
She’s not happy because she carries a heavy secret that could turn everyone’s life upside down. In a previous episode, we saw a flashback that revealed that Dudu had an affair with Bra Rex and fell pregnant. Thembi, Rex’s wife, gave her money and asked her to disappear. This is a secret Dudu has kept for the longest time and she hasn’t said anything to this day. Could it be that Rex is Mzi’s father?
Mzi faces rejection
Things don’t go well for Mzi at his trial with the Scorpions. At first, Bra Rex isn’t interested in seeing him but Thembi convinces Rex to give Mzi a try.
Thembi’s idea is that if they keep Mzi closer, they’ll be able to control him and keep him in check so that he doesn’t suspect what they did (remember, they are behind the death of his uncle, Bheki). Tinyiko, on the other hand, is scared to death about this arrangement.
Two girls: who is he going to choose?
Mzi gets invited to dinner at Bra Rex’s home to discuss his future plans, and while there he bumps into Owami, who seems to be interested in him. However, on the other hand, there’s Teaspoon, who’s been so good to him.
Mzi definitely has his hands full. If it’s not his soccer career, it’s now his dealings with the opposite sex. It’s clear that Owami has eyes for Mzi but hopefully, he only has eyes for Teaspoon.
Kop’s in trouble
Kop is kidnapped by Gab and his people. Unbeknownst to Mzi, his best hype man/manager, Kop, actually works for Gab, who’s a small-time hustler running an unofficial gambling ring around amateur community soccer games.
Mzi soon comes to realise that Kop’s problems may well be his, too.
