Showmax spotlights Iyabo Ojo: From drama class to Nollywood stage
Iyabo Ojo was always destined for the spotlight. She started acting in a drama group during her secondary school days. The early introduction to the stage helped prepare her for her acting career that kicked off in 1998.
The first film that introduced Iyabo to the world was the English language film Satanic in 1998. She later made her debut in the Yoruba part of Nollywood in Agogo Ide and her star has been rising since then. Iyabo produced her first film, Bolutife, in 2004. Bofeboko, Olulufe, Esan, and Okunkun Biribiri followed soon after.
Since her first foray into acting and production, Iyabo Ojo has featured in over 150 films, both English and Yoruba, including Twisted Twins streaming on Showmax – and has produced 14 of her own. In 2015, one of her movies, Silence, premiered at the Silverbird Cinemas in Lagos. A cinematic release was considered a feat in the early 2010s.
In an ever-changing entertainment landscape, Iyabo Ojo has proven her versatility with her TikTok and Instagram content. In her leisure time, the 44-year-old actress and mum of two can be found creating hilarious TikTok videos, and in 2020, she was presented with an award of Creative Recognition by the platform.
The actress is also an activist. She is the founder of the Pinkies Foundation, an NGO that caters to physically challenged children in the country.
