3 times The River’s Linda Mtoba stole our hearts
When Linda Mtoba got her big break on television she probably didn’t know that she’d end up stealing viewers’ hearts. Although she’s been in the industry for less than five years, she’s well on her way to becoming a household name. So, what is it about the 27-year-old actress? We’re glad you asked…
1. From Zama to Nomonde
South African viewers were first introduced to Linda as Zama on Mzansi Magic telenovela Isibaya. Linda went from being a teacher to scoring her first TV role, and she has never looked back. Her exit from the show was an emotional one for fans as it ended in death. However, all was well again when Linda landed a gig on The River, where she plays the vindictive and manipulative Nomonde.

“My character, she is something else,” she admitted on Afternoon Express. “I’m scared of her, I wouldn’t wanna be friends with her or have her as my enemy, nothing to do with her basically. I think it’s one of the most challenging roles I’ve done…”
She added: “And I love that I feel like I’m going from strength to strength and also growing in a way that I’m able to pace myself on the growth.”
2. Mrs Husband
The actress got a lot of people’s attention after she married the love of her life in 2017. This is not only because marriage is a beautiful thing, but also for the fact that she refers to herself as Mrs Husband in a lot of her pictures.

For some reason, fans couldn’t help but fall in love with Linda, as some saw her as a positive role model for marriage. Not to say that she made marriage popular or anything like that, but the way she has been publicly, unapologetically, proudly and hopelessly in love with her man, and not caring what the world says, is a joy to watch.
Fans find this inspiring. One even wrote on Twitter: “Lord I pray that one day we’ll all be as happy as @Linda_Mtoba aka Mrs Husband…” Another fan’s post read: “I want Linda Mtoba’s life. I want to be Mrs Husband too and have my hubby take pics of me while we country hop on our honeymoon.”
Why does she call herself Mrs Husband? Well, she told Afternoon Express: “I think I was the most excited bride there ever was, that was me that day, until this today actually. I think what people love is the fact that I am someone who is relatively young to be married, but here I am married and very happy.”
She explained that she’d like to change the narrative of marriage. “That a young person can be married and have a great career all at the same time and be happy all at once.”
3. A timeless queen
You know how celebrities sometimes get it wrong on the red carpet? We’re not trying to be spicy here, but we all know that when it comes to fashion, it’s not always a good sight on those red carpets. Fortunately, there are people like Linda Mtoba who make an effort when it comes to high profile events.
To say she stole the show at this year’s Vodacom Durban July would be an understatement. Let’s just say that she took the theme and made it her own.

Some of us would probably not even know how to interpret ‘It Is Time’ as a theme, but Linda had the perfect execution. Doesn’t she look like a dream? Timeless.
