Boardwalk Empire S1-5
Boardwalk Empire takes you right back to Atlantic City in the roaring 20s, when hemlines were going up and booze was off the menu (well, legally anyway). In this flashy, trashy town, corrupt politicians like Enoch “Nucky” Thompson thrive, conducting shady deals that have more to do with keeping the mob happy than serving the people.
The story is loosely based on real people, and includes some names you’ll probably recognise, like gangsters Al Capone and Lucky Luciano.
The cinematography is spot on, the costumes are gorgeous and with a cast that includes the likes of Steve Buscemi, Kelly Macdonald, Michael Pitt and Michael Shannon, it goes without saying that the acting is fantastic.
Boardwalk Empire was nominated for 57 Emmys, winning 20. It also won the Golden Globe for Best Drama Series and two SAG Awards for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series.
