John Lewis: Good Trouble
Nominated for a 2021 News & Documentary Emmy Award for Outstanding Historical Documentary, John Lewis: Good Trouble is an in-depth profile of US congressman John Lewis, exploring his six decades of social activism and legislative action on civil rights, voting rights, gun control, health care reform, and immigration.
John Lewis: Good Trouble won Best Historical/Biographical Documentary at the 2020 Critics’ Choice Documentary Award, where the film was also nominated for Best Political Documentary, and director Dawn Porter (Gideon’s Army, Trapped) was nominated for Best Director. Porter was also nominated for the 2021 Black Reel Award for Outstanding Documentary. Among its numerous accolades, the film also won the 2021 Image Award for Outstanding Documentary (Film).
John Lewis: Good Trouble has a 94% critics’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with Time Magazine saying, “Good Trouble shows that Lewis has never lost sight of the principles that are essential to his country’s survival and well-being,” and New York Times saying the film “makes an urgent argument: that a new wave of voter suppression has threatened the rights that Lewis labored to secure.”
