Meet the cast of Enakhe
The most addictive TV shows come with well-crafted characters brought to life by a talented cast; this formula endears us to shows like Halita and Ajoche, where we fell in love with lead characters Halita and Oofuni. Enakhe, one of the two Africa Magic TV shows launched after the Big Brother Lockdown Edition, has these qualities: its characters, from the powerful Epa to the cowardly Chief Sir Ehigiator Osagie, are sweet delights, and they are played by excellent actors.
We want to tell you about these actors, but first, let’s talk about the show. Enakhe, set in Benin, is a story with several moving parts. It’s the story of Epa, the leader of “the association of friends”, a small brotherhood that rules the underworld in Benin. Epa moved to crime after his friend’s child died due to a lack of money, and he has never looked back.
Enakhe is also the story of Epa’s daughter, Enakhe. She’s kind and unassuming; basically unfit for a life of crime, but she’s destined to rule after Epa. When Epa is unexpectedly murdered, she’s forced out of her shell to embrace his ruthlessness and fearlessness, and that’s where the story is headed. So let’s meet the talented cast bringing the story to life.
Alex Usifo as Osasere ‘Epa’ Iwinosa
There’s something about watching a Nollywood veteran in fine form; you travel to childhood memories of watching them and being in awe. Alex Usifo plays the patriarch of the Iwinosa family. The man who played the scary, blood-sucking witch Beelzebub in End of Wicked is characteristically authoritative, with his baritone voice oozing authority in every scene, and when he gets tender, especially with his beloved daughter, we are reminded of the legend’s range.
Lancelot Odua Imasuen as Chief Sir Ehigiator Osagie
The man who made the endlessly thrilling Issakaba, Lancelot Imasuen is known for directing hundreds of Nollywood pictures, but here he plays a spineless, loudmouthed patriarch who isn’t in control of his business or his house. It’s a fun character energized by classic Nollywood melodramatic acting.
Ivie Okujaye as Enakhe Iwinosa
The star of the show, Ivie Okujaye wears many caps: she’s an actress, singer, screenwriter, model and dancer. She is known for playing Kome in Eric Aghimen’s critically acclaimed Slow Country and winning the fifth edition of the Amstel Malta Box Office (AMBO) reality TV show.
Tolu Odewunmi as Latifah Iwinosa
Epa’s second wife and mother of Enakhé. Insecure because she did not bear an heir and has no place in the criminal empire, but when backed into a corner, she’s as dangerous as a garden filled with poison ivy.
Benjamin Olaye Jnr as Archie Umweni
Archie is Enakhé’s narcissistic, entitled and condescending fiancé, and while that ‘title’ is of honour, he holds a completely different one when it comes to his often very disappointed father. Present president of the ‘Men Are Scum Club, Benin chapter’ and a cat with nine lives, Archie is only pleasing to the eye.
Angela Eguaveon as Ivie Osakpolor
Enakhé’s best friend and adopted daughter of the Iwinosas. Archie’s secret lover (yes the same Archie that is engaged to her best friend). Looking for her golden ticket to glory and will stop at nothing until she sees it on her silver platter.
Charles Etubiebi as Jonas Osagie
Brother to Jacinta and only son and heir of the Osagies, criminal allies to the Iwinosas. Enakhe’s love interest, but his ‘always relaxed’ demeanour hides a spine of steel and countless secrets.
Sammi Edehi Egbadon as Onanefe Efetobore
Son of Ejiro, thus nephew of Ejiri. Trained by his mother for one purpose only, the downfall of the Iwinosas. Criminal underboss who is now old enough to begin to question his mother’s single-minded purpose and seek his own path.
Lota Chukwu as Jacinta
Many of us won’t forget Ajoche anytime soon, and that’s because of the enigmatic Oofuni, the mysterious, dubious healer whom we all love. Well, that character was played by the gifted Lota Chukwu, and we are glad to have her back on our screen as Jacinta, one of the most powerful characters on Enakhe. She knows the crime business, takes charge and isn’t afraid of getting her hands dirty. Sounds familiar? Yes! She reminds us of Oofuni.
